Great figures and merchants in the market, and all the children will laugh at him, his face will be ugly, his teeth sparse, his feet severely cracked, he will always suffer from hunger and thirst, and he will be abandoned by virtuous friends. Furthermore, if one constantly indulges in drinking, becomes addicted to it, drinks excessively, and those who brew and sell alcohol, it is said that they will be reborn in the sixteen attendant hells of the "Crying" hell. If someone pours alcohol on those who have taken vows, he will be reborn in the first attendant hell of the Crying hell—the Great Crying hell. There, extremely molten hot copper will be poured into his mouth. When the copper is poured in, a miserable cry will echo throughout the sky. Therefore, drinking alcohol will disturb the mind, making one unable to distinguish between what should and should not be done, thereby giving rise to all non-virtuous actions. After being liberated from that hell and reborn as a human, one will also become untrustworthy due to the result of a similar cause, and will be forgotten even for a short time. Because of being untrustworthy, one will become poor and will not make everyone happy. Even a minor illness will lead to death. If one pours alcohol on someone who has just taken vows, he will be reborn in the third attendant hell of the Crying hell—the Hair Burning hell. There, a rain of fire will burn him from his hair to his feet. His feet will be eaten by dogs, his body by foxes, and his head by vultures with burning beaks, and he will cry out to the Yama's messengers, saying, "We have become objects of pity! Do you have no compassion? Do you have no mercy? Do you not pity us?" They will answer, "How were you blinded by ignorance and committed so many evil deeds? Unbearable suffering torments you, this is not our cause." And they say, "Alcohol is the chief of poisons, one should not associate with drinkers. Associating with drinkers will cause all virtuous dharmas to decline. Whoever constantly associates with alcohol, his mind is unstable, and without an upright mind, there is no Dharma, therefore, abandon alcohol. Among all causes of decline, alcohol is the most serious decline, as the wise have said. Because one falls from being human and causes decline, therefore, do not associate with alcohol. Associating with drinkers is an unpleasant and sinful dharma, therefore, treat it like poison."

Completely abstain from drinking alcohol. There are many faults in drinking alcohol: it wastes money, brings a bad reputation, and easily breeds laziness. Therefore, be sure to abstain from drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol breeds desire, and similarly breeds anger and ignorance. Therefore, be sure to abstain from drinking alcohol. Thus it is said. If one is liberated from that and reborn as a human, one will be born in a place without alcohol and will not clearly know form and taste. A person who sells alcohol, if they add water to the alcohol or sell other things as alcohol, will be reborn in the fourth level of the Howling Hell, becoming a worm in the ashes of fire. There, worms will arise from the bodies of the hell beings themselves, and they will bore into and drink their flesh, skin, bones, and marrow. Furthermore, they will be tormented by four hundred and four diseases and burned and cooked by the fires of hell. If one is liberated from that and reborn as a human, one will become miserable and poor. If one lures and kills animals such as deer with alcohol, one will be reborn in the fifth level of the Howling Hell, becoming an anvil of burning iron fire. There, the burning iron anvil will crush them into powder, and as they cry out in agony, the servants of Yama will cut and tear apart their limbs with knives. If one is liberated from that and reborn as a human, one will be reborn in a poor place, lacking medicine, full of sorrow, and often suffering from the fear of fire. If one gives alcohol to an elephant for the sake of war, one will be reborn in the sixth level of the Great Howling Hell, becoming burning stones falling like rain. There, burning elephants will pierce their limbs and crush them into powder. Even if one is liberated from that, the servants of Yama will put them into boiling red copper to be burned and cooked. If one is liberated from that and reborn as a human, one will be killed by an elephant, become poor, have an ugly face, have legs and arms like a donkey, and have a rough body. If one gives alcohol to a woman and then engages in impure conduct with her, one will be reborn in the seventh level of the Howling Hell, becoming an immortal being. There, burning dogs will repeatedly take out and crush their testicles, and as they flee like smoke, they will face a ravine filled with birds with burning iron beaks and claws.
