It is like a friend's transformation. If it is not like that, once the body and mind are separated, it is difficult to transfer consciousness. For such a situation, to perform transference of consciousness, one needs someone who knows the place of rebirth in the bardo, and someone who has control over the mind. If it is such a yogi, then the bardo is separated from the gross body, so it is easy to transform through conditions. Therefore, if the transference of consciousness is performed from the bardo itself, the consciousness can be transferred to the pure land. It is said that even after death, trying to recall the consciousness to the corpse to perform transference of consciousness is meaningless. Therefore, most of the people who are now just named lamas or reincarnate lamas perform transference of consciousness for the dead. If it is completely out of compassion and bodhicitta, and there is no personal greed at all, then from the motivation of bodhicitta, it is also very helpful to the dead, and it will not bring obstacles to oneself. If it is not like that, just for one's own benefit, relying on knowing only how to recite scriptures to perform transference of consciousness, and demanding the dead's transference fee, etc., that is extremely inferior. As it is said: If you have not reached the land of liberation yourself, it is difficult to guide others, the two are not compatible, like a drowning person pulling another person into the water. Previously, when Realized Tenzin Choephel went to Tsari (a place name), he saw a person who he had personally transferred consciousness for and charged a fee, only showing his head in a red sea of blood, calling out his name, and asking him what to do. He was frightened and said that I gave you the merit of circumambulating Tsari Mountain, and the person disappeared. Moreover, even if it is a holy person with the highest realization, if he accepts the offerings of the dead without performing recitations and other rituals, it will become an obstacle on the path. Previously, when Dzogchen Rinpoche Gyurme Thekchok Tenzin passed away, Trimey Shingkyong Gonpo was invited to perform the funeral ceremony. He spent the whole day performing bathing rituals and summoning, and repeatedly performing transference of consciousness, just like treating an ordinary person. When the monks asked him the reason for doing so, he said that he had not performed recitations and dedications for a dead person who had offered a black horse, and that person was extremely sinful.

It seems that because he is in a certain person's state, it slightly obscures his path. But now, the two of us have joined forces and helped each other, and it has been effective. It is said that he is called Golog Tenzin. Therefore, those who are in the position of lamas and great reincarnate lamas, when accepting offerings for the deceased, if they do not earnestly generate good intentions and recite dedications, etc., it will be of no use to merely think, "I am this and that." Even those noble reincarnate lamas who are recognized as the unmistaken rebirths of former saints must learn from the very beginning, starting with ཀ་ཁ་ག་ང་ (ka kha ga nga), just like ordinary people, including learning to read and write. Therefore, if one forgets the reading and writing of letters known from the previous life but does not forget the yoga of generation and completion stages, it will surely be useless. So, from the time one is able to ride a horse, one should not only think of wealth but should slightly learn to generate good intentions and engage in retreat and practice, or so I think.

Indeed, there is no need (for anything else), because the tantra says: "Killing Brahmins daily, committing the five inexpiable sins, one can be liberated by this path, and will not be stained by sin." It also says: "If one mentally performs transference above the nine apertures, one will not be stained by sin, and will be reborn in a pure land." Furthermore, as it is said: "On the seat of the sun and moon on the crown of the head, the father with the signs, at the feet of the guru, if one knows how to travel on the path of the white channel, even having committed the five inexpiable sins, one will be liberated." Therefore, this profound transference instruction is the dharma of becoming a Buddha without practice, the secret path for forcibly liberating those with heavy sins. As the Buddha Vajradhara said: "Killing Brahmins daily, committing the five inexpiable sins, if one encounters this instruction, one will definitely be liberated, there is no doubt about it." Guru Rinpoche also said: "Enlightenment through practice is available to all Buddhas, the dharma of non-practice is unique to me." The great scholar Naropa said: "The nine doors are the windows of samsara, one door is the door of Mahamudra, cut off the nine doors and open the one door, there is no doubt on the path of liberation." The translator Marpa of Lhodrak said: "I am practicing transference at this time, practicing and practicing, again and again, even if I die like an ordinary person, I have no fear, because I have the confidence of past familiarity." Jetsun Shedpa Dorje said: "This instruction of blending and transference is the best way to destroy the bardo, where is the person who has this path? How happy is the person whose life force enters the central channel, reaching the realm of dharma, Emaho!" Such an instruction has two parts: first, training, and second, applying it in practice. The first, training, is to receive the guidance of transference now, and practice it again and again, striving until signs appear. Also, it is somewhat difficult to actually transfer consciousness through transference when one's body's channels, winds, and bindus are not diminished and are flourishing, but it is easier to transfer at the time of death or extreme old age, just as fruits and berries are difficult to pick when they are flourishing in summer, but are ripe and close to falling in autumn.
