Therefore, considering it easy to prostrate, one should face a slope like a mountainside, and there is no essence whatsoever in prostrating from places like the edge of a cliff. Moreover, nowadays, when meeting with lamas and others, people look for a slightly better posture, then bend over once or twice, and say that this is the prostration of a nobleman. Most ignorant people imitate this, which is extremely terrible. The point of requesting Dharma is that even the way to prostrate should be learned from the lama. Whatever is learned should not be forgotten at any time or place, and must be put into practice. If even things that are easy to do and easy to learn are not put into practice, then there is no benefit to requesting Dharma. Therefore, the point of requesting Dharma is that even the way to prostrate should be superior to those who do not know the Dharma. In the past, when Jetsun Milarepa went to Lama Ngokpa to request Dharma, Lama Ngokpa was teaching the Two Treatises on the Guhyasamaja Tantra to many monks. Jetsun saw him from afar and prostrated. Lama Ngokpa was very pleased and took off his hat to return the prostration, saying, "The auspiciousness of the Dharma connection is also good. The way he prostrated just now is the way of prostration of the Lhodrak Marpa lineage. Ask who he is." In short, relying on a lama and requesting Dharma is like throwing a piece of cloth into dye, completely different from before. One must imitate the actions of the holy lama. For example, a piece of cloth put into dye may have good or bad dyeing, but it is impossible for the color to remain completely unchanged from when it was not put into dye. Nowadays, even if one hears the Dharma hundreds of times, one's mindstream does not improve in the slightest from before, and all one's actions and behaviors are no different from those of worldly people. This is called being a Dharma-greed or an obstacle to practice. Such a person can be tamed by Dharma, but a Dharma-greed cannot be tamed by Dharma. A hard stone can be tamed by oil, but lard cannot be tamed by butter. As it is said, no matter how much one hears about the benefits of virtue, the harms of evil, and the qualities of the Buddha, one only thinks, "That's how it is," and one's mind does not change.

Since even a little certainty and faith cannot be generated, even if the complete and perfect Buddha himself were to come, he would not be able to benefit them. The Great Orgyen (Padmasambhava) also said: "Do not rely on attendants who preach the Dharma but carry sticks, do not associate with friends who keep vows with measure." Therefore, even if you understand the meaning of a single Dharma word, you must integrate it into your own mind, recognize its true nature, and practice it. The point of relying on a lama is to observe the lama's actions of body, speech, and mind, and to follow and learn from them. Even worldly sayings say: "All actions are imitations, and who is the most skilled in imitation." Just as this saying goes, one must take all the outer, inner, and secret qualities of the lama into one's own mind, just like taking something out of a carved bowl. In general, prostration is just a gesture of respect. There are many ways to prostrate, and the customs of each place are different. But here, the lama speaks of the way of prostration that is in accordance with the Buddha's teachings. If one understands but does not prostrate properly due to contempt or arrogance, it is a sign of disrespect and contempt for the object of prostration. Know that such perfunctory prostrations only bring harm and have no meaning. On the other hand, prostrating properly and according to the rules has immeasurable benefits. In the past, a monk prostrated to a stupa made of the Buddha's hair and nails. Ananda asked the Buddha about the merit of this. The Buddha said: "By prostrating once, one will experience as many chakravartin kingships as there are dust particles from one's body touching the great golden earth, but even so, one cannot exhaust the merit of prostration." Similarly, the sutra says: "The reason why the Ushnisha of the Buddha is invisible is because it arises from respectfully prostrating to those who should be regarded as lamas." That is to say, it will ultimately become the cause of achieving the invisible Ushnisha of the complete and perfect Buddha. The second branch is the branch of offering. In reality, one must offer whatever one can afford, as mentioned earlier when offering the mandala, the offerings must be clean
