are the ropes from which one cannot escape. The source of all suffering, causing involuntary separation from wealth, possessions, etc., is therefore deeply kind. Even demons and obstacles can become objects of patience. Therefore, by relying on enduring heat, cold, and suffering, one can purify many sins committed in the past. In particular, like Jetsun Milarepa, it was because his uncle and aunt stole all his wealth and possessions that he encountered the Dharma. Also, like the nun Palmo, she was threatened by Naga demons and practiced Avalokiteśvara, thereby attaining supreme accomplishment, etc., which facilitated her encounter with the Dharma, and is therefore deeply kind. The Omniscient King of Dharma said: 'Encountering the Dharma after being harmed, the harmer is deeply kind because one finds the path to liberation. Encountering the Dharma after suffering and becoming disillusioned, suffering is deeply kind because one finds lasting happiness. Encountering the Dharma after being harmed by non-humans, the ghosts and demons are deeply kind because one finds fearlessness. Encountering the Dharma after being hated by others, the hater is deeply kind because one finds benefit and happiness. Encountering the Dharma through intense adverse conditions, the adverse conditions are deeply kind because one finds the unchanging path. Encountering the Dharma after being deceived by others, the instigator is deeply kind because one finds the meaning of the essence. May this shared merit of repaying kindness be dedicated to them.' As it is said. Therefore, they are deeply kind in this life and are also our parents from previous lives, so they are very important. Finally, during the dissolution, due to one's own sincere devotion, immeasurable rays of light radiate from the bodies of the refuge deities. Touching all sentient beings, oneself and others, all sentient beings, like a flock of birds startled by stones, fly with a buzzing sound and dissolve into the refuge deities. The refuge deities also gradually dissolve into light from the edges, dissolving into the guru, the embodiment of the Three Jewels, in the center. All the deities stacked on the crown of the head also dissolve downwards into the guru. The guru also dissolves into light, vanishing into light, and remains in the primordial state of the Dharmakaya, free from elaboration, free from the activity of mental thoughts. When rising from that state, dedicate the merit for the benefit of limitless sentient beings. By this merit, may I quickly attain the Three Jewels, and may not a single being be left behind.

May it be placed there. Thus it is said. At all times and in all circumstances, in a state of mind inseparable from mindfulness and awareness, the assembly of deities of the refuge, when walking, meditate on the sky of the right shoulder. That is the place to circumambulate. When sitting, meditate on the sky at the crown of the head. That is the support for supplication. When eating and drinking, meditate in the center of the throat. That is the place to offer the first portion of whatever is eaten or drunk. When sleeping, meditate in the center of the heart. That is the key to concealing delusion in luminosity. Thus, in all activities, in a state inseparable from the clear appearance of the refuge deities, with faith that is convinced by the Three Jewels, rely on refuge alone. Third, explaining what to learn and the benefits. First, what to learn includes three things to abandon, three things to cultivate, and three things to be in harmony with. First, the three things to abandon are: Having taken refuge in the Buddha, do not prostrate to gods who are bound in samsara. That is to say, do not regard the gods of externalists, such as Ishvara and Vishnu, who themselves have not been liberated from the suffering of samsara, and other worldly deities such as local deities and landlords, powerful spirits, as ultimate refuges and offer prostrations and offerings. Having taken refuge in the Dharma, abandon harming sentient beings, it is said. Therefore, one should not do anything that harms or injures other sentient beings, not even in a dream, and should strive to protect them as much as possible. Having taken refuge in the Sangha, do not associate with non-Buddhist friends, it is said. One should not associate with those who do not believe in the teachings of the Victorious Ones and the Fully Enlightened Buddha, and who are of the kind of externalists. However, even though there are no real externalists in Tibet, one should not associate with others who are like externalists, such as those who slander and revile one's own lama and Dharma, and who denigrate the profound secret mantra teachings. The three things to cultivate are: Having taken refuge in the Buddha, even a fragment of a representation of the Buddha Jewel should be revered with respect. Place it on the head and keep it in a clean place. Generate the perception that the Buddha Jewel is the actual Buddha, and generate faith and pure perception. Having taken refuge in the Dharma, even a single page of scripture should be revered. Place it on the head.
