When no accomplishment was achieved, the guardian deity said: You have no past generosity at all, so I cannot grant you accomplishment. One day, he found a bowl of tsampa among a group of beggars, and when he returned, the guardian deity said: Do you know that I gave you accomplishment today? Getting a bowl of tsampa, even if it wasn't me, was for all the beggars. When asked what your accomplishment was, he said he didn't know. When the tsampa was poured in, a large piece of butter fell into your bowl, that is my accomplishment. Therefore, if one does not have past accumulations, even by practicing wealth deities and other methods, one cannot eliminate poverty. If worldly wealth deities and others can grant the accomplishment of enjoyment, then all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have power and miraculous abilities that are a hundred thousand times greater than them, and they benefit all sentient beings even without being requested. They would certainly rain down enjoyment and eliminate the poverty of all at once, but they have not done so. Therefore, enjoyment and wealth, etc., also arise only from the fruit of accumulating merit. It is better to accumulate merit like a spark than to make efforts like a mountain. In general, now that we borderlanders have gained a little enjoyment and power, everyone exclaims, 'Master, what is going on?' But even with just a little bit, one does not need to accumulate great merit. In the case of fields and pure intentions, the king, with me as the main one, ruled the area below the Thirty-Three Heavens with the fruit of giving seven mustard seeds, and the power of King Salgyal (name of a king) was also said to be from the generosity of warm tsampa without salt. Previously, when Atisha came to Tibet, the whole of Tibet was more prosperous and flourishing than it is now, but Atisha said: Tibet is actually the realm of pretas. In Tibet, there is no one to enjoy the fruit of giving a can of barley in a pure field. Therefore, being amazed at the immediate hustle and bustle and a little power is

Firstly, it is due to one's own limited wisdom. Secondly, it is due to the great attachment to the appearances of this world. Thirdly, it is due to not understanding the key points of how karmic results increase, such as the example of the Ashoka fruit, or even if understood, not believing it. Therefore, it is a sign that a genuine, non-artificial mind of renunciation has arisen in one's being. If that is the case, then no matter how one sees the splendor and wealth of this world, like a dragon, as high as the sky, as powerful as thunder, as colorful as a rainbow, one should know that they have no permanence, no stability, and not even as much essence as a sesame seed husk. One should feel disgusted, like giving roasted barley flour to someone with a liver disease. Moreover, striving to accumulate wealth with the specific hope of enjoying this life is only suitable for ordinary worldly people. It is not close to the true Dharma of renunciation. If one desires the true Dharma that attains the state of liberation, then, as mentioned repeatedly before, one must abandon all attachment to this world and this life like spitting out ashes, turn one's back on one's homeland, embrace foreign lands, rely only on solitary places, and practice with a mind that is happy to live and happy to die. A student once asked the Peerless Dagpo Rinpoche: "Now, in this degenerate age, it is difficult to practice the true Dharma because food, clothing, and necessities are scarce. Should I engage in various methods of accumulating wealth, or learn some good alchemy, or is it necessary to have the ability to induce certain death?" He replied: "Even if you accumulate wealth, it will be difficult to succeed if you do not have the merit of generosity from previous lives. Moreover, accumulating wealth for the sake of this life contradicts the sincere practice of Dharma. Even if you practice alchemy, it is not like the time of the early ages when the essence of earth, stones, water, trees, and so on had not been lost, so it is useless in this age. It is also impossible to induce certain death, because it is difficult to obtain such a fully endowed human body like this one in the future. However, if a mind that is truly determined to practice the state of neither dying nor not dying arises from the depths of your heart, you will not lack food and clothing, for there is no example of a Dharma practitioner dying of starvation. The Bhagavan also said that even if there is a famine where one bushel of flour is exchanged for one bushel of pearls, the followers of the Buddha will not lack food and clothing."
