As it is said, in the past, a pig was chased by a dog and circumambulated a stupa, and seven insects fell into the water from a leaf, and were carried by the direction of the water's rotation, circumambulating the stupa in the water seven times, etc. These also became causes for attaining liberation, like such stories. Therefore, at all times and in all circumstances, even the slightest sin should be abandoned, and even the slightest virtue should be accomplished as much as possible. Dedicating these to sentient beings includes all the bodhisattva's training and vows. The discipline of benefiting sentient beings is, as previously stated, when one's own desires have completely disappeared, relying on the four means of gathering to actually accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, and striving to do so. In the initial practice, no matter what practice of abandoning evil and doing good is cultivated, it should be taken with the three excellences, and dedicating it for the benefit of all sentient beings is included in it. Third, the perfection of patience is divided into three: patience that endures the evil deeds of others, patience that endures hardships for the sake of the Dharma, and patience that does not fear profound meanings. First, the patience that endures the evil deeds of others is: towards others who directly beat, rob, speak harshly, etc., and speak ill of oneself behind one's back, etc., one should not generate hatred and anger, but instead generate love and compassion, and benefit them. If one does not do so, and is controlled by anger, it will be like "a thousand eons of accumulated merit will be destroyed by one anger," as it is said. As the Bodhicharyavatara says: "A thousand eons of accumulation, giving and offering to the Buddhas, all virtuous deeds, one anger can destroy." Therefore, there is no sin like hatred, and no asceticism like patience. Therefore, one should diligently cultivate patience in various ways. As it is said, one should remember the faults of anger, and strive to cultivate patience at all times and in all circumstances. The Indian saint said: "Enemies and hatred are illusions of karma, abandon hatred and malice, Dingriwa." Also, Jowo Je Lhaggig's oral instruction also said: "Do not be angry with the one who harms, if you are angry with the one who harms, patience"

"What should one practice?" Thus it is said. Therefore, when one is subjected to slander or experiences unpleasant abuse and other harms, if one can abandon anger and resentment, one will exhaust a great deal of sin and obscurations. By relying on patience, one will perfect a vast accumulation of merit. Therefore, one should regard those who cause harm as one would a lama. If there is no object to generate anger, then to whom would one practice patience? In general, nowadays, some people, even though they are lamas or good monks, are said to be very prone to anger. In this world, there is no fault greater than anger. Since this is the case, how can one say that someone who is easily angered is a good person? The Indian saint also said, "A hundred acts of desire are not as sinful as a single moment of anger." This is because you do not understand this principle. For a person who has generated the lineage of Dharma, their body, speech, and mind should be like being pressed down by a ball of cotton, or like adding butter to tsampa, becoming soft and gentle. If it is not like this, and one has only accomplished a little virtuous action, or only kept a few vows, one is always arrogant, thinking, "I am like this and that." Even if someone else says a word well or poorly, one thinks, "They are belittling me, they are slandering me," and one's mind is always filled with anger. This is a sign that the Dharma and one's own mind have become separated, and that the Dharma has not benefited one's mind in the slightest. The virtuous friend Chennga said, "We are engaging in listening, contemplation, and meditation, but our ego is growing larger and larger, our patience is smaller than a bird, and we are self-righteous like a clean 'kolongbu' (a type of container). This is a sign that our listening, contemplation, and meditation have gone astray." Therefore, at all times and in all circumstances, one should remain in a humble position, wear ragged clothes, take upon oneself the good, bad, and middling, and, based on loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta, tame one's own mind with the Dharma. This is the unadulterated essence of practice. It is better than a thousand lofty views and profound meditations that do not benefit the mind. The patience of enduring hardships for the sake of the Dharma is: In order to practice the sublime Dharma, one must overcome all hardships, heat, and cold. It is also said in the scriptures: "Even if one has to cross an ocean of fire and a sea of sharp blades, one should seek the true Dharma until the end of one's life." The four entrustments of the former Kadampa masters were:
