Because (Klu Grub) and life are one, Klu Grub will not die until (he) passes away. Klu Grub has power over life, so there is no time to die. Therefore, you say that many of your brothers died without obtaining the kingdom, so the son asked the mother what could be done. The mother said: Teacher Klu Grub is a Bodhisattva, if you offer your head, he will grant it. There is no other way. The son went to Klu Grub and offered his head, (Klu Grub) said, 'Cut it off, take it.' Then he took a sword and no matter how much he struck the neck, it was like throwing it into the air, and he could not cut it off. Then the teacher said: 'The karmic ripening of my being struck by swords has been purified five hundred lifetimes ago, so swords cannot cut me. When picking kusha grass, the karmic ripening of killing insects has not been purified, so strike with kusha grass and it will be cut off.' Then he cut kusha grass and struck, and the head fell to the ground. I said that I am going from here to Sukhavati.

He went to the city and met (the Buddha). He had great faith and scattered a handful of peas to the Buddha, four of which fell into the alms bowl. As a result of the two hitting his chest, he was born as a Chakravartin king in Jambudvipa. The result of the four peas falling into the alms bowl was that he ruled the four continents for 80,000 years. The result of one of the two hitting his chest was that he was the master of the Four Great Kings for 80,000 years. The result of one was that in the Thirty-Three Heavens, during the rotation of the thirty-seven Indras, he possessed half of the Indra's kingdom. Furthermore, even the merit of throwing a single flower into the sky towards the Buddha can obtain Indra and Chakravartin, and such a result is difficult to obtain. As it is said in the Damamūka-nidāna: Even small virtues, do not despise them as useless, drops of water accumulate, and great vessels gradually become full. And in the Yönten Dzö it is also said: Just like a tree with a seed the size of a mustard seed, when the fruit of the Ashoka tree matures in season, each branch can grow by one yojana, and the analogy of the growth of good and evil images cannot be compared. The so-called Ashoka tree, its seed is smaller than a mustard seed, but when this tree grows, each branch can grow by about one yojana each year, but even so, it cannot be compared to the analogy of the growth of the fruits of good and evil. Furthermore, even if one violates a small precept, it will produce great sins. Once, when the Naga king Ela-leaf came before the Bhagavan in the form of a Chakravartin king, the Bhagavan said: Not only are you making scars in the teachings of Kashyapa Buddha, but are you also making scars in my teachings? Because speaking of Dharma nature in one's own form causes many things that harm me, so I cannot come in my own form. So he had Vajrapani guard him, and as a result, a huge snake, covering many yojanas, had a huge Ela-leaf tree growing on its head, the weight of the tree pressed down on it, and the roots were being eaten away by insects, and it was suffering greatly. When asked for the reason, he said: He used to be a monk in the teachings of Kashyapa Buddha, on a road,

It is said that a person hung his robes on a large, flourishing tree, and he became very angry, violating the precepts, and cut down the tree. (The Buddha) said that was his fault. Like that, all virtuous and evil actions, and the weight of karma, depend mainly on the intention of the mind. For example, if the root of a large tree is medicine, then its trunk and leaves are also medicine; if the root is poison, then the leaves and trunk are also poison. Just as a poisonous root cannot produce medicinal leaves, if the motivation is born from attachment and aversion, and the mind is not pure, then even if one does something that appears to be virtuous, it will actually become evil. If the mind is pure, then even if one does something that appears to be non-virtuous, it is actually virtuous. As it is said in the *Treasury of Qualities*: "If the root is medicine, the sprout is also medicine; if the root is poison, what need is there to mention the sprout? From the distinction between virtuous and non-virtuous thoughts, the images of virtue and evil do not follow size." Therefore, if the root of selfish desire is completely eliminated and the mind is pure, then bodhisattvas sometimes actually engage in the seven non-virtuous actions of body and speech. For example, the captain Great Compassion killed the black man with a short spear, and the Brahmin boy Star engaged in impure conduct with the Brahmin girl. That was when our teacher, in the past, took birth as the captain Great Compassion, leading five hundred merchants to sea, when a cruel robber named Black Man with a Short Spear appeared on the way, intending to kill the five hundred merchants. He thought, "These five hundred merchants are all irreversible bodhisattvas. If they are all killed by one person, that person will have to remain in hell for countless eons. How pitiful! Therefore, if I kill him, he can be spared from falling into hell, even if I fall into hell myself, there is no other way." Thinking this with great courage, he killed the robber, thereby completing the accumulation of seventy thousand eons. This appears to be a non-virtuous action, because a bodhisattva actually killed a person. But in reality, it is a virtuous action, because he had no selfish intentions, and immediately
