According to his instructions, he again served Ngok and went to Marpa. One day, during a feast gathering, he severely reprimanded Lama Ngok and others, and physical punishment ensued. He thought to himself, "Because of my great evil deeds and heavy sins, not only do I suffer, but Lama Ngok and my mother also suffer this much torment. Now, I cannot obtain the Dharma and only accumulate sins, so it would be better to hang myself." As he was preparing to hang himself, Lama Ngok interceded. Lama Marpa also calmed down his anger and summoned the master and servant to his presence. Then, he took them under his care and gave them many good teachings. He bestowed the name Mila Dorje Gyaltsen. During the empowerment of Chakrasamvara, he manifested the mandala of the sixty-two deities and bestowed the secret name Laughing Vajra. He imparted all the empowerments and instructions like pouring water from one vase to another. Through intense practice and hardship, he attained both common and supreme accomplishments. Therefore, all the past Indian and Tibetan pandits and vidyadharas relied on a true lama, a virtuous spiritual friend, and practiced according to their words, thereby becoming inseparable in realization. Therefore, do not have wrong views about all actions, and if you do not rely on them with a straight mind, without hypocrisy and deceit, even if you tell a small lie, the fault is very serious. Previously, when a disciple of a great accomplished one gathered many followers and was teaching the Dharma, the lama came in the form of a beggar. Because he was ashamed to prostrate in the middle of the crowd, he pretended not to see him. In the afternoon, after the assembly dispersed, he met the lama and prostrated. The lama said, "Why didn't you prostrate just now?" He said, "I didn't see you." Immediately, both eyes sank into the ground. Later, he begged for forgiveness and told the truth. The lama blessed him, and his eyes returned to normal. Similarly, the Indian accomplished one, Krishnacharya, was also traveling by boat across the ocean with many followers when a thought suddenly arose: "Although my lama is a true accomplished one, from a worldly perspective, I am superior to him in terms of retinue and possessions." Immediately, the boat sank into the ocean, and he suffered in the water. He prayed to the lama.

Tab appeared in person and saved him from the fear of water, because you have developed great pride. I have not accomplished retinues and enjoyments either, but if I had made efforts for those, I would have become like you. Thus, the compassion of the countless Buddhas who have passed away in the past, whom it is impossible to describe, could not save us, and we have remained in this great ocean of suffering in samsara until now. The compassion of the countless great accomplished beings who appeared in the past has not been seen, and we have not even had the fortune to see their faces. Now, at the end of the Buddha's teachings, when the five degenerations are rampant, even though we have only obtained a human body, we are completely dominated by non-virtue. We are ignorant of what to adopt and abandon, like a blind person wandering in an empty wilderness without a companion. At this time, the supreme virtuous spiritual friends, the Lamas, with uninterrupted compassion, appear in human form as beings who are suitable for their respective capacities. Although their minds abide in the state of Buddhahood, they follow their own behavior and actions, and skillfully guide us, leading us into the gate of the true and sacred Dharma, opening our eyes to what to adopt and abandon, and showing us the supreme path of liberation and omniscience without error or confusion. In essence, they are no different from the actual Buddha, and are even protected by a kindness that surpasses that of the Buddha. Therefore, at all times and in all ways, we must strive to rely on them with the three kinds of faith. Although we meet holy beings, we are deceived by inferior conduct. Although we find the supreme path, we stray from the path and fall into the abyss. May beings with evil natures like myself be blessed to subdue their minds with the Dharma. The instructions on relying on a virtuous spiritual friend: the common preliminaries are complete. Common outer preliminaries.
