One should cultivate the mind of benefiting others. This is the second virtue of intention. Abandoning wrong views, one should rely on correct views in one's mindstream. This is the third virtue of intention. The ripening result of these virtues is: rebirth in any of the three higher realms. Through the result similar to the cause in terms of action, one will be delighted to do good in all lifetimes, and good deeds will increase. Through the result similar to the cause in terms of experience, abandoning killing leads to longevity and few illnesses; abandoning taking what is not given leads to having possessions and no enemies or thieves; abandoning sexual misconduct leads to a beautiful family and few enemies; abandoning lying leads to being praised and loved by all; abandoning divisive speech leads to respectful attendants; abandoning harsh speech leads to hearing pleasant sounds; abandoning idle talk leads to dignified speech; abandoning covetousness leads to fulfilling one's wishes; abandoning harmful intent leads to being free from harm; abandoning wrong views leads to the arising of good views in one's mindstream. The dominant result is: maturing in the environment, reversing the previous results of non-virtue, and being enriched by all perfect qualities. The result of the agent is: whatever virtuous actions are done will increase, resulting in a continuous stream of merit. The third meaning is that everything is shown to be the nature of karma: just as from the peak of existence down to the bottom of hell, all the unimaginably different kinds of happiness and suffering that each being experiences are produced solely from the good and bad karma accumulated in the past. The Sutra of the Hundred Acts from the Sutra Pitaka says: The happiness and suffering of sentient beings are caused by karma, as the Buddha said. Karma is also diverse, and it makes this world diverse. Wandering and entering into various states, this web of karma is vast. Thus it is said. Now, no matter how much power, wealth, and possessions one has, when the time of death comes, none of these will follow. Only the good and bad karma accumulated in this life will follow, and by its power, one will be thrown into the higher or lower realms of samsara. The Sutra Admonishing the King says: When the king departs on the day of death, possessions, friends, and companions will not follow. Wherever beings go from wherever, karma follows like a shadow.

Followed like a mother. It is said. Therefore, although the results of good and bad deeds done now are not immediately visible, saying, "This is the result," they will never be wasted. When they are accumulated and the time comes, each will experience them personally. As it is said in the Hundred Karmas: The actions of sentient beings, Even for a hundred kalpas, will not be wasted. When they are accumulated and the time comes, They will ripen into their own fruit. And in the Treasury of Precious Qualities, it is said: The shadow of a garuda soaring high above the earth, Although it may not be visible for a while, Like sentient beings separated from gathering and parting, When accumulated and the time comes, it will be even more apparent. For example, when a bird flies into the sky and reaches a high altitude, the bird's shadow seems invisible. However, it is not that there is no shadow. Eventually, wherever it lands, that shadow will appear there as a dark mass. Similarly, although the good and bad deeds we do may not be immediately visible, in the end, there is no way to avoid them coming upon us. Moreover, even the Buddhas and Arhats who have abandoned all the obscurations of karma and afflictions must take responsibility for their karma. What need is there to mention ordinary beings like ourselves? In the past, in the city, the army of King Pasenadi of Shravasti came and killed eighty thousand people. The Bhagavan also had a headache, and the retinue asked for the reason. The Bhagavan said: In the past, I was a fisherman and killed and ate many fish. One day, I caught two big fish and, instead of killing them immediately, tied them to a pillar. The fish were dried and struggled, thinking, "These people killed us for no reason, so we will kill them for no reason in return." The result of that karma was that the two big fish were reborn as King Pasenadi and his minister Mala Ghanada. Those who killed the fish were reborn as the soldiers of those two, and today they have all been repaid. At that time, I was born as the fisherman's son, and when I saw the two big fish being dried and struggling unbearably, I laughed. The result of that karma is that I have a headache today. If I had not attained such excellent qualities of Dharma, I would have been killed by Pasenadi's army today. Similarly, in the past, the Bhagavan Bodhisattva
