Thus, a close attendant of Langtangpa asked the Lama Langtangpa, "Others say that Langtangpa is a black face." The Lama said, "How can the face turn white when thinking about the suffering of the three realms of samsara?" Once, there was a turquoise on his mandala, and a mouse tried to lift it but couldn't. The mouse squeaked, calling other mice, one pushing and one pulling. When the Lama saw this, he showed a slight smile, and it is said that he never smiled at all other than that. Therefore, meditating on the suffering of samsara is the beginning of entering the sacred Dharma, generating faith in cause and effect, abandoning this life, generating love and compassion for sentient beings, etc., is the foundation of all the qualities of the path. The Blessed One also said first in the three turnings of the Dharma wheel, "Monks, this is suffering." He began to teach from knowing suffering, so it must be practiced until it arises in the continuum. Knowing that samsara is suffering, yet still clinging and attached, clearly fearing falling into the abyss of the lower realms, yet still engaging in non-virtuous actions. Please bless me and sentient beings like me who have gone astray, to abandon this life from the depths of our hearts. This is the teaching on knowing that samsara is suffering. Properly adopting and abandoning good and evil, cause and effect according to the teachings, conduct conforming to the gradual increase from below, with correct view, there is no attachment to anything, I prostrate to the feet of the incomparable Lama. Karma and Result. The fourth topic is the teaching on karma and result. The method of teaching and listening is the same as usual. The Dharma to be taught is: the non-virtuous actions to be abandoned, the virtuous actions to be cultivated, and the showing of everything as the nature of karma, these three. First, thus, being born in the high and low places of samsara is due to the cause of accumulating virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Samsara is born from karma and made by the fruit of karma, therefore, there is no other creator for going to the realms of happiness and suffering, but it is also not happening by chance, therefore, in all circumstances, one must examine the cause and effect of good and non-good, and strive to abandon the non-virtuous side and cultivate the virtuous side. Among them, there are ten non-virtuous actions to be abandoned, first, the actions of the body: killing, taking what is not given,

Greedily engaging in sexual misconduct is three. Lying, divisive speech, harsh words, and idle chatter are four forms of verbal misconduct. Mental actions include covetousness, malice, and wrong views, totaling ten. The first of these, killing, involves causing the cessation of the life force of any being, whether human or animal, with the intention to kill. This includes killing out of hatred, like a warrior slaying an enemy in battle; killing out of desire, like hunting animals for meat or fur; and killing out of ignorance, like those who do not understand the consequences of good and bad actions, or like non-Buddhists who kill believing it to be virtuous. Among these, killing one's father, mother, and an Arhat are the three deeds of immediate retribution, meaning that there is no intermediate state between this life and the next, and they are the cause of being born directly into the Avici Hell. Now, we think that just because we have not directly taken a life with our own hands, we are free from the sin of killing. However, in general, no one, regardless of status, is without the countless sins of killing small creatures underfoot. In particular, when lamas and monks visit the homes of patrons, and those patrons slaughter animals and prepare meat dishes to offer them, if the monks do not feel regret or compassion for the slaughtered animals, but instead greedily enjoy the taste of the meat, then both the patron and the monk equally acquire the sin of killing. Great figures and officials, wherever they go, cause countless killings for the sake of tea offerings and banquets. Wealthy people, in general, slaughter all their cattle and sheep one by one as they grow old, with only one or two dying naturally, resulting in countless killings. Moreover, those cattle and sheep also eat insects, bees, ants, fish, and frogs along with the grass in the summer, trample them underfoot, and kill countless creatures in horse and cow dung, and these sins also fall upon the owner. In particular, sheep, more than horses, cattle, and other livestock, are an inexhaustible source of sin, because they themselves...
