In a certain place, it is said that Nanda, the brother of the Blessed One, observes the precepts, and he will be reborn in the heavenly realm, that is his palace. Nanda happily returned and went to the Blessed One, who asked, "Have you seen the heavenly realm?" He replied, "I have seen it." The Blessed One asked, "Which is more beautiful, the heavenly maidens or your two wives?" He replied, "The heavenly maidens are more beautiful, like the difference between a blind monkey and a white lotus flower." Afterwards, he returned to the human realm, preached the correct precepts, and stayed. The Blessed One said to the monks, "Nanda has renounced for the sake of heaven, and you have renounced with the thought of Nirvana, so you have embarked on different paths. You should not talk to Nanda, do not speak to him, do not sit with him on the same seat, etc." All the monks did so, and Nanda was very distressed. He thought: Other monks have abandoned me, but Ananda is my brother, he will love me, right? So he went to Ananda, who also stood up from his seat and avoided him. He asked the reason, and Ananda told him what the Blessed One had said. Nanda was therefore very sad. The Blessed One came and asked Nanda, "Do you want to see hell?" He replied, "I want to see it." So the Blessed One used his miraculous powers to take him to hell and let him watch. Nanda went there to watch and saw all the hells. In one place, a blazing fire was burning in an empty copper pot, and many craftsmen were standing around it. He asked why there were no other beings there. They said, "Nanda, the brother of the Blessed One, observes the precepts for the sake of the happiness of the heavenly realm. He is reborn in the heavenly realm to enjoy happiness, and when his virtuous karma is exhausted, he will be reborn here." He was very frightened after hearing this and returned. From then on, he thought: Even if I am reborn in the heavenly realm, I will eventually fall into the lower realms, which is meaningless. So he developed a mind of renunciation. Because he had seen hell with his own eyes, he dared not violate even the slightest precepts. Therefore, the Blessed One declared him to be the most excellent of those who guard the doors of the senses. Like this, seeing hell with one's own eyes is like this, let alone seeing a picture of hell drawn on the ground?

Generating fear and cultivating renunciation, the Blessed One also said to draw the five-part wheel of the monastic college. Lord Nagarjuna also said: Even seeing and hearing about the sufferings of hell, fear arises, what need is there to experience the unbearable ripening results? Thus, by contemplating the sufferings of samsara in various ways, one must turn away from all worldly affairs from the depths of one's heart. If one does not let go of worldly affairs, even if one practices Dharma for years, it will not become true Dharma. When Jowo (Atisha) was about to pass away, a yogi requested: After Jowo passes away, I will practice meditation. Jowo said: Even if you meditate, it will not become Dharma. The yogi then requested: Then I will explain the Dharma. Jowo said the same as before. The yogi asked: Then what should I do? Jowo said: All of you should rely on a teacher and let go of this life. A monk was circumambulating Rateng Monastery, and met Geshe Tonpa. Tonpa said: It is good to circumambulate, but wouldn't it be better to practice the Dharma yourself? At that time, the monk thought: Is reading the Mahayana sutras more meritorious than circumambulating? So he recited the sutras in the courtyard of the monastery. Tonpa said: It is good to recite the sutras, but wouldn't it be better to practice the Dharma yourself? He thought: This implies that meditation is more meritorious than reciting, so he stopped reciting and lay in bed with his eyes closed. Tonpa said: It is good to meditate, but wouldn't it be better to practice the Dharma yourself? At that time, he could not find another way to act, so he asked Geshe: Then what kind of Dharma should I practice? Tonpa said: Jowo, let go of this life! Let go of this life! It is said that he said that. Therefore, all worldly affairs of this life will prevent us from escaping from the state of suffering of samsara forever. Therefore, cutting off the attachments of this life, and diligently studying to achieve enlightenment in the next life, can teach us well, and there is no one other than a qualified lama, so abandon parents, relatives, friends, wealth and enjoyment, and all food and clothing like spitting out phlegm.

Therefore, it is enough to practice only the supreme Dharma. The Indian saint said: Since things are like clouds and fog, do not cling to their permanence. All fame is like an echo in the mountains, do not pursue fame, but practice the Dharma. Good clothes are like rainbows, wear old clothes and enjoy them. Your own body is like a bag of pus and blood, do not cherish it. Even if you eat delicious food, it is an impure thing, do not pay special attention to food. Appearances arise like enemies, sleep in a monastery or mountain. The thorns of delusion pierce the heart, practice in equanimity. All needs arise from oneself, protect your own mind. The jewel is within yourself, do not be attached to food and wealth. The more you speak, the more it is the root of disputes, stay like a mute. Mind manifests as karma, do not follow the dictates of consciousness. Blessings arise from the mind, pray to the Guru and Yidam. Staying in one place for a long time, you will see faults even in the Buddha, do not stay in one place for long. Practice humble behavior, abandon great pride. Because you will not stay long, do not delay practice. This life is like a guest, do not build houses in the resting place. In short, because there is no benefit, practice the Dharma. Your own body will be eaten by insects, or disappear without a trace, do not be distracted by the appearances of this life. Relatives and friends are like small birds on a tree, do not be attached to them. Faith like good soil, do not let it be a place of affliction. This human body like a wish-fulfilling jewel, do not give it to the enemy of hatred. Vows like sharp fortresses, do not let them be defiled by the faults of sins. When the Vajra Master is alive, do not be lazy in the supreme Dharma, he said. Therefore, to practice the true Dharma, it is necessary to realize that everything in Samsara is meaningless. And the cause for this realization to arise in the continuum is to meditate on the faults of Samsara, therefore, practice from the depths of your heart until this realization arises in the continuum. Like this, the standard for the meditation on the faults of Samsara to arise in the continuum is to be like Geshe Langri Tangpa.
