Son, the first is a handsome celestial son, unbearable is the heart of affection for him. The middle son is heavily in debt, never satisfied even if given everything. He brings another's daughter into the house, and throws out his kind parents. He doesn't answer when his father calls, nor does he respond when his mother calls. The last is a stingy neighbor, ruined by the sweet talk of a swindler. He cherishes a natural enemy in his heart, and abandons the reins of samsara. I do not want such worldly offspring. Daughter, the first is a smiling celestial girl, a powerful woman who takes away all wealth. The middle daughter is an endless enemy, openly demanding from her father and taking, secretly stealing from her mother and taking, never considering giving back, causing her kind parents heartache. The last is a red-faced demoness, good at coveting the happiness and joy of others, bad at hoarding her own possessions. She cherishes a ruinous demoness in her heart, and abandons inconsolable sorrow. I do not want such a daughter who is the source of ruin. Relative, the first is one who is happy to meet and smiling, filling the valley with "Come here" and "Sit here." The middle relative is a food friend of meat and alcohol, giving one in return for one. The last is one full of love-hate disputes, cherishing the loss of a suffering friend in his heart, abandoning the drinking buddy of happy times. I do not want such worldly relatives. As said above, the suffering of not fulfilling desires is: In this world, there is no one who does not wish to be happy and joyful, but no one can have their wishes fulfilled. Building a castle hoping for happiness also collapses and kills oneself; eating food hoping to be full also turns into disease and threatens life; going to the battlefield hoping for victory is immediately killed; going to trade hoping to gain profit is defeated by enemies and becomes a beggar, and so on. No matter how much effort is put into striving for happiness and enjoyment in this life, if one does not have the karma from a previous life, even temporarily filling one's stomach will not be achieved, and one will only subject oneself and others to suffering. In the end, one will only create negative karma that cannot be liberated from the depths of the lower realms. Therefore, it is better to accumulate merit like a spark than to make efforts like a mountain, because the activities of samsara are without end.

What should be done now? No matter how much effort is put into such activities from beginningless time, the result is only suffering. Before, one merely spent one's life striving for the sake of this life. If one were to strive in the sacred Dharma, even if one does not attain Buddhahood now, one could certainly ensure that one would never have to experience the suffering of the lower realms. Now, at this time when we know the boundaries of what to abandon and what to adopt, we should not have great expectations for the activities of samsara, which have no definite time of accomplishment, but should resolve to practice the genuine sacred Dharma. The suffering of unwanted things befalling us is this: although there is not a single person in this world who desires such kinds of suffering, one must nevertheless experience them. Due to the karma of previous lives, like the domain of a king or the servants of a wealthy person, one has no freedom even for a moment and is subject to their control against one's will. Even if one is subjected to much suffering for a small fault, there is nothing one can do. Even if one is now led to the execution ground, one cannot even escape as one wishes. It is merely that unwanted things befall us. The Omniscient One said: "With these relatives and friends, although one wishes to be inseparable and together always, one is certain to be separated. Although one wishes to remain in this good dwelling place always, one is certain to depart. Although one wishes to enjoy this happiness and prosperity always, one is certain to lose it. Although one wishes to have this precious human body with leisure and opportunity always and to be permanent, one is certain to die. Although one wishes to never be separated from this good lama and to listen to the Dharma, one is certain to be separated. Although one wishes to be inseparable and together with these noble and virtuous friends always, one is certain to be separated. Therefore, from this very day, let us allocate our time for diligence, hoping to travel to the realm of great bliss, where there is no separation. To those friends who deeply generate renunciation, I, a Dharma-less beggar, urge you in this way." Therefore, the causes of wealth, enjoyment, happiness, fame, and so on, if one has the accumulated merit from previous lives, they will arise spontaneously even if one does not desire them. If one does not have them, no matter how much effort and striving one makes, one's wishes will not be fulfilled, and one will not
