The Khenpo of the Upper Vinaya Holders also had instances of becoming the father of many children in his later years, and so on. There were also cases of people who spent their early lives doing only sinful deeds, but in their later years practiced only the supreme Dharma and attained accomplishment. Or, even if not, there were many instances of people who, at the time of death, grasped the right path and were reborn in higher realms. Therefore, the appearances of good and bad at the present moment have no permanence or stability even for an instant. However, one should generate renunciation and weariness, and pretend to practice some Dharma. When others, worldly people, consider one to be good, and patrons and disciples lift one up from the feet, one should not examine one's own mind stream carefully, but think, "I am like this and that," and inflate one's mind stream with pride. To give rise to the thought that appearances are chaotic and that whatever I do is proper is to be clearly deceived by demons. Abandon the object of self-grasping, and generate the wisdom of selflessness. Until one attains the level of an Arya, the appearances of good and bad are impermanent. Therefore, one should always meditate on death and impermanence, examine the faults of one's own mind stream, always remain in a humble position, generate renunciation and weariness, and train in peace, gentleness, and mindfulness. Thinking about the impermanence of compounded phenomena and the suffering of samsara, one should always train in these four: focused mind, weary heart. As Je Milarepa said: "In the rock cave of a desolate valley, weariness arises constantly. To the Guru, the Buddhas of the three times, the focused mind is inseparable." One should practice like this. If one does not practice like this, even this temporary conceptual thought is impermanent, and it is unpredictable what will happen. In the past, a person who was close became an enemy, and later entered the Dharma. There was a practitioner named Gelong Thangpa. When he gained control over wind and mind and could fly in the sky, one day, many pigeons gathered to eat torma. He had a bad thought: "If I had an army like this, I could subdue those enemies." As a result, he later returned to his homeland and became a military officer. Similarly, although one may temporarily gain some appearance of Dharma due to the influence of a Guru and virtuous friends, because the perceptions of ordinary people are not permanent, one should illuminate one's own mind with Dharma, and strive to balance life and practice. That is what I think. Like this, in terms of example and meaning

While talking, while working, there are many instances of death. Some people even commit suicide. Like this, among the many causes of death, when alive, one's ability is small, like a candle in the wind. It exists, so now death suddenly arrives. Tomorrow morning, it is also uncertain whether one will be reborn as a livestock with horns growing on its head or mouth. Therefore, one must believe that when death will come is uncertain, and where one will be reborn is also uncertain. Seventh, contemplating strong desire, cultivate impermanence: at all times and places, only cultivate death, and whether walking, sitting, or lying down, one must think that this is the end of worldly behavior. One must also say this in words. One must also cultivate it earnestly in one's mind. When going to other places, one must also think, will I die there, or will I be able to return here, it is uncertain. When walking on the road or sitting at a resting place, one must also think, will I die here? Wherever one is, one must think, will I die here? When sleeping at night, one must also think, will I die on this bed tonight? Will I be able to wake up tomorrow morning, it is uncertain. When waking up in the morning, one must also think, will I die here for the whole day today? Will I be able to sleep tonight, it is uncertain. Like this, from the depths of one's heart, earnestly cultivate death. Previously, when the Kadampa Geshes slept at night, they would think, will I be able to light a fire tomorrow morning, so they would not hide the fire. They would also put the rice bowl face down, like this, they would immediately think of death. Merely cultivating death is also not enough, because at the time of death, the only thing that is beneficial is the supreme Dharma. Therefore, one must always maintain mindfulness and awareness, knowing that all the actions of samsara are impermanent and meaningless, so one must strive to practice the true Dharma. In short, the aggregation of body and mind is impermanent, so do not cling to the borrowed body. If walking, the road is impermanent, so put your feet on the Dharma. If sitting, the dwelling is impermanent, so put the pure land in your heart. Food and enjoyment are impermanent, so take samadhi as food. Look at how long the yoke is, and do not be confused in your mind when walking. Who eats? If sleeping, sleep is impermanent, so purify delusion into luminosity. If wealthy, wealth is impermanent, so befriend the seven noble riches. Relatives and friends and political power are impermanent, so strive to generate renunciation in solitude. Power and fame are impermanent.
