Even if I am a great official, I cannot take a single servant with me. Even if I am the master of all the wealth in the world, I cannot take even a single needle and thread. Even the body that I cherish must be left behind. At that time, when alive, the body is wrapped in silk and satin, with tea and wine in the mouth, the noble and beautiful body like a god will become what is called a "corpse," which is frightening to see, dark and gloomy, and heavy and swaying. Lord Milarepa said, "That which is called a corpse, which is frightening to see, is now at the root of the body." At that time, it is tied with ropes, covered with cloth, and supported by earth and stones. The mouth of the bowl is placed under the head as a pillow. No matter how cherished or beautiful it is, it will become a place of disgust and nausea. Now, even if sleeping on a bed stacked with silk and soft fur, one cannot sleep soundly and needs to turn from side to side, but at that time, one can only put a stone or clod of earth under the cheek, and the head can only be placed on the uneven ground. Now we think like leaders or strongmen, thinking that if it weren't for me, these people left behind would either starve or freeze to death, or be washed away by enemies. Now these people have wealth and happiness, etc., thinking that all of this is for my own happiness, but after death, they will burn the corpse, or throw it into the water, or throw it into the cemetery, or dispose of it, and then live in peace, and there is nothing else. When dying, one wanders alone in the Bardo, without friends, lonely and helpless. At that time, only the sacred Dharma is the only refuge, so now one must strive to practice even a little bit of the sacred Dharma. Similarly, everything accumulated is of the nature of exhaustion. Even a king who rules the world will eventually become a beggar. Some people have abundant wealth in the first half of their lives, but in the second half of their lives, they exhaust all their property and eventually starve to death. People who had hundreds or thousands of livestock last year are facing difficulties due to snowstorms and disasters, and this year they have become beggars. The other day, someone who was full of power and wealth

Even warriors are destroyed by enemies, and we witness many things like begging today. We cannot possess wealth and resources forever, so we should constantly think about accumulating the provisions for generosity. All gatherings will eventually disperse impermanently, just like the great markets or Dharma assemblies in various regions, where thousands or tens of thousands of people from different places gather, but eventually, they all return to their respective homelands. Now, we, teachers and students, masters and servants, patrons and offerings, friends, siblings, spouses, and so on, who are together with love, will inevitably have no way to avoid separation in the end. If death or a sudden and violent accident occurs, there is no certainty that we will not separate even now. Therefore, these friends, spouses, and so on, who are gathered together now, will also eventually separate from each other. Do not be angry, fight, speak ill of each other, or quarrel, because there is no certainty of being together forever. In this fleeting moment, we should be together with love and care. Therefore, Father Dampa said, "Spouses are impermanent like guests in a market, people of Dingri (place name), do not speak ill of each other or quarrel." All built castles will also collapse. In the ruins of previously prosperous villages and monasteries, there were also excellent inhabitants, but now they have become nests for birds and sparrows. During the time of Lhasas Trisong Detsen, the Samye Utsé three-story building, built by incarnate craftsmen and consecrated by the second Buddha of Oddiyana, was destroyed in a single night by a fire. During the time of Songtsen Gampo, the building that rivaled the Red Mountain Palace Namgyal Khangzang, now not even the foundation stones remain. What is the point of cherishing our own houses and monasteries like insect nests? Therefore, like the biographies of the Kagyu forefathers, abandon your homeland, accept foreign lands, live in rocky mountains, befriend wild animals, entrust the three things of food, clothing, and shelter, focus your mind on the Dharma, entrust the Dharma to beggars, entrust beggars to death, and entrust death to empty valleys. This is the entrustment of Jowo Kadampa.
