Those who walk on the path cannot ultimately transcend the state of death. From the "Sutra of Dispelling Sorrow," it is said: "The five great sages possess clairvoyance and can travel far in the sky, but wherever they go, they cannot reach the land of immortality." In this world, even the Chakravartin kings, who are extremely prominent in power and wealth, and the countless kings who ruled the world from the royal lineages revered by many in the sacred land of India, have passed away. Furthermore, there were the three Palas, the thirty-seven Chandras, and so on. Many kings of eastern and western India possessed great power and wealth. In the snowy land of Tibet, starting from King Nyatri Tsenpo, an emanation of the king of gods, there were the seven in the sky, the six on the earth, the eight in between, the five at the joints, the thirteen and a half generations of happy dynasties, and the five generations of extremely happy dynasties. During the time of Dharma King Songtsen Gampo, the emanation army conquered from the upper Nepalese region to the lower Chinese region. During the reign of Prince Trisong Detsen, two-thirds of Jambudvipa was brought under his control. During the reign of Dharma King Ralpachen, an iron pillar was erected on the banks of the Ganges River in India, marking the border between China and Tibet. Many countries such as India, China, Gesar, and Tajik were brought under his rule, so much so that the New Year's banquet had to reach Lhasa's Lingka in one day. Considering the current situation where there is nothing but talk of such power, whatever we consider to be good about our current residence, possessions, retinue, and power is no more than a beehive compared to those of the past. What is permanent and stable in such things? One should contemplate in this way. Fifth, contemplate impermanence by considering various examples and meanings. In general, thinking about the rise and fall of kalpas is also impermanent. In the first kalpa, all people illuminated by their own light, and there were no sun and moon in the sky. They traveled in the sky by means of miraculous powers. Their bodies were many yojanas in size. They ate nectar-like food and possessed perfect happiness comparable to the gods. However,

Due to the power of afflictions and non-virtue, it gradually declined and became like it is now. Moreover, due to people's afflictions becoming coarser and coarser, lifespan and merit all gradually decrease, and eventually the lifespan will decrease to ten years. The three calamities of disease, weapons, and famine will flourish, almost destroying the beings of Jambudvipa, and for the remaining beings, an emanation of Maitreya Buddha will teach the Dharma of abandoning killing, causing the body size to become one cubit, and the lifespan to increase to twenty years, and so on, gradually increasing. When people's lifespan can reach eighty thousand years, the Protector Maitreya will descend and become a Buddha, turning the wheel of Dharma. Thus, after completing eighteen cycles of increase and decrease, when the lifespan of beings can reach immeasurable years, the Buddha Mopa will descend, and his duration of life will be equal to the sum of the lifespans of the thousand Buddhas of the past Fortunate Aeon, and the activities of benefiting beings that he performs will be equal to their sum. Eventually, this aeon will also be destroyed and exhausted, etc. Even if we examine the increase and decrease of aeons, it does not go beyond the nature of impermanence. In particular, observing the changes of seasons and the four seasons is also impermanent. In summer, all the meadows appear green, all the rain falls like nectar, and all beings enjoy happiness and joy. Countless varieties of flowers bloom in white, yellow, red, and green, like a heavenly realm. In autumn, the cold wind rises, the green meadows change color, and all the flowers and plants gradually wither. In winter, all the land becomes as hard as stone, all the water turns to ice, and the cold wind and snow increase. Even if you search for many days, you will not find a single flower like those that grew in summer, etc. After summer comes autumn, after autumn comes winter, after winter comes spring, and so on, appearing in sequence, the state of each previous period will change. Because it is impermanent, yesterday and today, morning and evening, this year and next year, etc., if we measure all these gradually changing aspects of impermanence, then we cannot trust anything.
