Like a beggar's son, contemplate from the depths of your heart, wondering what is permanent and stable about it? Secondly, contemplate impermanence by thinking about sentient beings. Like this, from the highest point of existence down to the lowest level of hell, there is not a single sentient being who is liberated from the state of death. As it says in the Letter of Comfort: "On earth or in the heavens, is there anyone born who has not died? Have you seen or heard of such a thing? Or even doubted it?" Like this, if there is birth, it is subject to death. Even in the world of the gods in the heavens, there is no such thing as "this one was born and has not died," let alone seeing or hearing of it. There is not even a doubt as to whether he is dead or not. Especially we Jambudvipa people, born in a place where life is uncertain, at the end of times, so we will die quickly now. From the first night of birth, we are getting closer and closer to death, life is not increasing but decreasing, and the messenger of the Lord of Death does not stay for even a moment, but comes closer and closer like the shadow of the setting sun, so there is no certainty as to when and where we will die. Will we die tomorrow? Will we die tonight? Even in the space between breathing in and out now, there is no certainty of not dying. As it says in the Compendium of Sayings: "Who knows if you will die tomorrow? You should strive today. The great army of the Lord of Death is not your friend." Also, the venerable Nagarjuna said: "This life is full of dangers, like a lamp in the wind, more impermanent than a bubble in water. What leisure is there to wake up from sleep after breathing in and out? That is very wonderful." Like this, people are attached to the pleasure of sleep, and breathe slowly in and out. Even in the space between breaths, there is no certainty of not dying, so waking up peacefully without dying should be regarded as wonderful. Therefore, although we now only think about when we will die, because we have not generated the concept of the uncertainty of when we will die in our minds, we are only distracted by the hope and fear of pursuing eternal appearances, and are addicted to the pursuit of happiness and fame in this life. At this time, the messenger of the Lord of Death suddenly seizes us with a black rope.

Oaths have been sworn, but when the time comes to flaunt wealth and arrive before death, neither the army of heroes, the might of the powerful, the wealth of the rich, the words of the wise, the beauty of the beautiful, nor the speed of the swift will be of any avail. Even if one is placed in a small, seamless iron box, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of valiant warriors wielding sharp weapons, with arrowheads and spear tips pointing outwards, there will be no protection or hiding place, not even a hair's breadth. The Lord of Death, Yama, will place his black noose around the neck. The face turns blue, the mouth gapes, and tears fill the eyes. The head, feet, and five fingers tremble, and one can only be led away on the path to the next life. The hero has no place to exert his strength, the powerful has no place to command, wealth cannot be used to bribe, there is no escape, and no hiding place. There is no refuge or help, no protector or friend, and no method or compassion. Even if the King of Medicine were to appear in person, he could not postpone the death of one whose life is exhausted. Therefore, now is the time to abandon laziness and procrastination, and from the depths of one's heart, contemplate and practice the true Dharma that will surely be beneficial at the time of death. Third, contemplate impermanence by reflecting on holy beings: Just as in this present Fortunate Aeon, countless Buddhas have appeared in the past, such as the Buddhas Vipashyin, Sikhin, and the other seven Buddhas, along with their retinues of Shravaka Arhats. They benefited countless sentient beings with the teachings of the Three Vehicles, but now only the remnants of Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings remain. All the Buddhas have passed into Nirvana. The sacred Dharma is also gradually declining. In this present teaching, there were also many great Shravaka disciples, each with a retinue of five hundred Arhats, who gradually passed into Nirvana in the realm of no remainder. Furthermore, in the sacred land of India, the five hundred Arhats who compiled the scriptures, the Six Ornaments, the Two Supremes, the eighty Siddhas, and others who freely mastered the qualities of the grounds and paths, and possessed unobstructed clairvoyance and miraculous powers, have all passed away. But now, apart from the legends that "such beings existed in the past," not a single one remains. In the snowy land of Tibet,
