When the Second Buddha turned the Dharma wheel of maturation and liberation, the twenty-five great accomplished masters of the king and subjects, the eighty great accomplished masters of Yerwa, and so on, came. Later, the three clans of Nyingma, So, Zur, and Nub, the three of Sarma, Mar, Mi, and Dak, and so on, produced countless wise and accomplished beings. Most of them attained the state of accomplishment, were able to freely control the four elements, and displayed the inconceivable miracles of transforming tangible things into intangible things and intangible things into tangible things. Fire cannot burn, water cannot drown, earth cannot bury, cliffs cannot fall, and they are completely free from the harm of the four elements. For example, when Jetsun Milarepa was in retreat in the cave of Nyeshang Kabu in Nepal, many hunters came and asked if he was a human or a demon, but he did not answer and remained in a state of observation. At first, they shot many poisoned arrows, but they did not hit. When they threw him into the water and cliffs, he went upstream and returned to his original place. When they piled wood on his body and lit a fire, the fire could not burn. Although many accomplished beings like this appeared, they all eventually showed the impermanent nature, and now only historical legends remain. We ourselves, because of bad karma as the cause, the wind of bad conditions as the aid, and bad habits as the connection, are bound by the heaviness of the four elements, and entrust our minds to the impure illusory wheel. This illusory body does not know when it will perish or where it will perish. Therefore, we should now strive to practice the virtues of body, speech, and mind, and meditate in this way. Fourth, contemplate impermanence by thinking of the lord of beings: even the gods and sages who live for kalpas and are full of glory cannot escape the fate of death. For example, the lord of beings, Brahma, Indra, Vishnu, Shiva, and so on, have lives that last for kalpas, bodies that are measured in yojanas and kroshas, and glory that eclipses the sun and moon, but they cannot escape the fate of death. The "Treasury of Qualities" says: Brahma, Indra, the Well-Born, and the Universal Monarch, Have no means to escape the clutches of the Lord of Death. Furthermore, the gods and human sages who possess the five clairvoyances, by the power of miracles
