If one wishes to contemplate and separate from that, it is compassion, even though everything is on the mind of benefiting others, it is distinguished by the manner of contemplation. Furthermore, equanimity also has two aspects: all sentient beings have been experiencing only suffering since beginningless time, which is caused by attachment and aversion. Therefore, contemplate that all sentient beings may be free from closeness, distance, attachment, and aversion. Another is contemplating that all sentient beings have been one's parents, and how terrible it is to have closeness, distance, attachment, and aversion towards them, thereby contemplating all sentient beings as parents and children. The former appears extensively in various treatises, while the latter is more common in instruction manuals. However, these two are not contradictory, because if all sentient beings are free from attachment and aversion, oneself is also included in that. If the attachment and aversion in one's own mind are pacified, one will also generate the mind of wishing others to be pacified in the same way. In short, the four immeasurables are distinguished through the four ways of wishing to have, wishing to separate, not separating, and wishing to pacify. In the eighth chapter, the chapter on fully embracing the mind of enlightenment, in the section "For whom there is no thought of self-interest," the nature of the mind of enlightenment is: As stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "The generation of the mind is for the sake of others, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment." Therefore, it possesses two meanings or two aspects: what is done for the sake of, which is compassion focusing on benefiting others; and what is done for the sake of, which is wisdom focusing on perfect enlightenment. If both of these are not complete, merely wishing to benefit others or merely wishing to attain perfect enlightenment does not constitute the generation of the mind. If one does not wish to attain ultimate perfect enlightenment, then no matter how one wishes to give temporary and ultimate benefit and happiness to other sentient beings, it does not go beyond the scope of loving-kindness and compassion. Merely wishing to attain the state of a perfect Buddha for oneself is also discussed in the treatises of the Hearers. In short, if these two aspects of the thought "for the sake of all sentient beings" and the thought "to attain the state of a perfect Buddha" are not complete, it does not constitute the mind of enlightenment. Therefore, the distinction between loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment must be understood very carefully, because they are the root of all the paths of the Great Vehicle, and it is not sufficient to rely merely on verbal explanations. In the classification of the generation of the mind, after the five paths

The five kinds of arising mind are: In the path of accumulation, it is the initial arising mind; in the path of preparation, it is the completely purified arising mind; in the path of seeing, it is the arising mind of seeing the Dharma; in the path of meditation, it is the arising mind of liberation; and in the path of no more learning, it is the inconceivable arising mind. The twenty-two divisions of grounds are: As stated in the Ornament Sutra, "They are earth, gold, moon, and fire, treasure and jewel source, and ocean, vajra, mountain, medicine, spiritual friend, wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, song, king, treasury, great path, vehicle, arrangement, water, sound, reflection, river, and clouds. These are the twenty-two aspects." These are examples, and by these examples, the twenty-two companions of the arising mind, and the twenty-two similarities between the example and the exemplified, are explained in sequence. Companion: The arising mind that is in accordance with the desire to seek enlightenment. The example is like the earth, because it is the basis of all white qualities. Similarly, apply it to others as well. Companion: The thought of wanting to practice the six perfections for the benefit of others. The example is like gold, because it does not change in any situation. Companion: That thought becomes more excellent, becoming an excellent thought. The example is like the waxing moon, because white qualities increase more and more. Companion: Actually practicing the six perfections, corresponding to the practice. The example is like fire, like the fire of burning wood, going higher and higher. Companion: Generosity, the perfection. The example is like a treasure, because it is inexhaustible and fulfills wishes. Companion: Discipline, the perfection. The example is like a source of jewels, because it is the source of all jewel-like qualities. Companion: Patience, the perfection. The example is like the ocean, because it is not disturbed by harm from fire, weapons, and so on. Companion: Diligence, the perfection. The example is like a vajra, because it is indestructible and very hard, so it is not obstructed by anything. Companion: Meditation, the perfection. The example is like a mountain, because it is not moved by the wind of conceptual thoughts. Companion: Wisdom, the perfection. The example is like medicine, because it cures the disease of afflictions. Companion:
