The object and purpose are the same, namely, focusing on the Four Noble Truths. The aspect is to focus on the individual characteristics of the Four Noble Truths, entering with faith in the manner of belief, entering with diligence in the manner of joy, entering with mindfulness in the manner of not forgetting the object, entering with samadhi in the manner of one-pointedness of mind, and entering with wisdom in the manner of distinguishing meanings. The meaning of the words is that they have the power to generate pure qualities, hence they are the five faculties. The fifth is the five powers. The object and aspect are the same as the five faculties. The meaning of the words is that faith and so on are not controlled by their respective opposing factors, but are transformed into powers, hence they are powers. The sixth is the seven branches of enlightenment. The object is the Four Noble Truths. The aspect is that mindfulness holds the object based on the Four Noble Truths without forgetting it. Discrimination of Dharma ascertains the characteristics of the Dharma and Dharmata of the Four Noble Truths as they are. It enters with diligence and joy. With joy, joy arises from newly seeing the Dharmata of the Four Noble Truths. With pliancy, it makes body and mind serviceable. With samadhi, it prevents the mind from being distracted elsewhere. With equanimity, it makes the mind abide calmly without sinking or excitement. The meaning of the words is that non-conceptual wisdom discriminating Dharma is enlightenment, and the others become its branches, hence they are the seven branches of enlightenment. The seventh is the eightfold noble path. The object is what has already been seen and practiced, so it is the same as the path of seeing, namely, the Four Noble Truths. The aspect is that with right view, at the time of the previous path of seeing, one ascertains in the manner of determination that the Dharmata of the Four Noble Truths has been realized in this way. With thought, one realizes that kind of realization in the manner of reason and basis, and one ascertains and understands in the manner of how to express it to others. With speech, one expresses the nature of the realization of Dharmata, which is free from elaboration, with words as mere terms, and one shows it to others in the three ways of teaching, debating, and writing, and one makes the view completely pure and believes in it. With the end of action, one makes all actions not contradictory, and one believes that the discipline corresponding to the Dharma is completely pure. With livelihood, one does not mix with the food of wrong livelihood and sin, and also

Pure livelihood makes one believe that livelihood is pure. Diligence makes one repeatedly familiar with the meaning of the Dharma that has already been seen, thus becoming the antidote to abandoned afflictions. Mindfulness holds the aspects of calm and insight without forgetting, thus becoming the antidote to the near afflictions of forgetfulness. Samadhi accomplishes samadhi that is free from faults such as sinking and excitement, and increases the qualities of the path more and more, thus becoming the antidote to opposing factors. As it is said in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "Completely cutting off and understanding, and the other three make one believe, the rest are limbs of the antidote." Thus, if the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are condensed into substance, they are ten or eleven: faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom are five; joy, pliancy, equanimity, attention, and discipline are ten. Among them, the four mindfulnesses are included in wisdom, the four right abandonments are included in diligence, and the four miraculous feet are included in samadhi. Right discrimination of Dharma and right view are wisdom. Speech, the limit of action, and livelihood are the three disciplines. Or, if speech is counted separately, there are eleven. Generation stage and completion stage, dharani and exhaustion, etc., as the generation stage and completion stage are explained in the tenth chapter. Dharani is the mindfulness and wisdom that does not forget to hold the words and meanings of the Dharma, etc. Exhaustion will also be explained. The first of the ten grounds that is the cause of becoming the nature of the four paths of learning, the first ground of utmost joy, has seven qualities: the nature is the special wisdom at the time of the Mahayana path of seeing, which is the basis of qualities. The definition is, as it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Being close to enlightenment, accomplishing the meaning of sentient beings, from seeing the path, producing the extremely difficult, therefore it is called utmost joy." The difference of abandonment is abandoning one hundred and twelve that are abandoned by seeing and abandoning. The difference of realization is realizing the meaning of pervading the nature of Dharma. The mundane qualities are being able to enter and arise from one hundred samadhis in an instant, being able to see the faces of one hundred Buddhas, knowing that one is blessed by one hundred Buddhas, being able to go to one hundred Buddha-fields, being able to shake one hundred Buddha-fields, being able to illuminate one hundred Buddha-fields, being able to open one hundred gates of Dharma, being able to ripen one hundred sentient beings, and showing that one abides for one hundred kalpas.
