Specifically stating what was given for oneself. Like establishing precepts when some people commit offenses, extensively discussing the beginning from the basis of conversation is the introduction. Narrating the history of some other people in that way is the avadāna. The combination of stories that happened in ancient times is what happened in that way. Narrating the series of bodhisattvas' births is the jātaka. Explaining the immeasurable Dharma that is profound and vast is the extensive exposition. Explaining some profound meanings of the wonderful and marvelous Dharma that has never been heard before is the marvelous. The Dharma of samsara, the divisions of skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas. The Dharma of the path, the classifications of bhūmis and samādhi. The Dharma of the result, the categories of kāyas and jñānas, etc., thoroughly determining all the meanings of the Vinaya and Sutra is the determination. Those are also categorized into the three piṭakas. The five, Sutra, Geya, Vyākaraṇa, Gāthā, and Udāna, are the Sutras of the Hīnayāna. The three, Nidāna, Avadāna, and Itivṛttaka, are the Vinaya of the Hīnayāna. Jātaka is the Vinaya of the Mahāyāna, and the two, Vaipulya and Adbhūta, are the Sutras of the Mahāyāna. The determination is the Abhidharma of both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna. Thus, what is expressed by the three piṭakas is the three higher trainings of the path. What is expressed by the Vinaya piṭaka is the higher training in morality. What is expressed by the Sutra piṭaka is the higher training in samādhi. What is expressed by the Abhidharma piṭaka is the higher training in wisdom. "Dharma is merit, path, and nirvāṇa," in such a context, the general term Dharma has ten meanings. Dharma is knowable and path, as well as nirvāṇa and the object of mind. Merit, life, and scripture, future, certainty, and custom. As it is said, among them, whatever becomes the object of knowledge is knowable, and Dharma among the six external āyatanas is the object of mind, the duration of how long life lasts is life, what is about to happen now is the future, what has no error in any meaning is certainty, and one's own customs and so on are custom, these six are merely what the sound of Dharma refers to. Here, the sound of the holy Dharma refers to merit, path, and nirvāṇa.

There are four kinds of scriptures, of which the first three are the Dharma of realization, and the last is the Dharma of transmission. The Dharma of realization, such as the four mindfulnesses, etc., in the section on the qualities of the five paths, there are thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, divided into seven categories. Among them, the first is the four mindfulnesses, which include three aspects: object, aspect, and function. The object is the four, such as the body. Among them, the body refers to the form aggregate, which is divided into three types: the external body refers to the vessel world composed of the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind; the internal body refers to one's own body; and the intermediate body refers to the bodies of other sentient beings. Feeling refers to the feeling aggregate, including pleasure, pain, etc. Mind refers to the consciousness aggregate, which is the eight consciousnesses or the six consciousnesses. Dharma refers to all dharmas, represented by perception and mental formations. In terms of aspect, Hinayana practitioners contemplate the body as impure, feeling as suffering, mind as impermanent, and all dharmas as selfless; Mahayana practitioners contemplate all four as emptiness like the sky in meditative equipoise, and as illusion and dream in post-meditation. Furthermore, there are three differences between the mindfulnesses of Mahayana and Hinayana: the difference in object, Hinayana only contemplates one's own body and the other three, while Mahayana contemplates the bodies and the other three of all sentient beings; the difference in aspect, Hinayana contemplates them as impure, etc., while Mahayana contemplates them as emptiness; the difference in purpose, Hinayana practices to be free from the contaminated body, etc., while Mahayana does not practice for the sake of being free or not being free, but for the sake of attaining non-abiding Nirvana. In terms of sound and meaning, wisdom distinguishes the general and specific characteristics of the body, etc., and then mindfulness protects their continuity, therefore it is said that mindfulness abides in the realm of wisdom. Mindfulness does not forget the object, and wisdom establishes it as selfless without analysis, therefore it is said that wisdom abides in the realm of mindfulness. The second is the four right abandonments, to generate desire, effort, exertion, mind-holding, and mind-dwelling in order not to generate unwholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen. Similarly, in order to cut off the continuity of unwholesome dharmas that have already arisen.
