These are four hundred and fourteen when divided by grounds and degrees of magnitude. The forty-six divided by grounds are each divided into nine. Alternatively, the five afflictions excluding anger are divided by the nine grounds and nine degrees of magnitude, resulting in eighty-one. Multiplying eighty-one by five gives four hundred and five, adding the nine of anger in the desire realm gives four hundred and fourteen. There are three realms: the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. There are nine grounds: the desire realm, the first dhyana, the second, the third, the fourth, infinite space, infinite consciousness, nothingness, neither existence nor non-existence, these are the three realms and nine grounds. Magnitude refers to, for example, attachment to desire, which also has great of great, great of medium, great of small, medium of great, medium of medium, medium of small, small of great, small of medium, and small of small, these nine. The way to abandon them is that what is abandoned by seeing is conceptually imputed, so it is abandoned merely by seeing the nature of the four truths. What is abandoned by meditation is innate, so it cannot be abandoned merely by seeing the truth, but must be gradually abandoned by becoming accustomed to what has been seen. Furthermore, the Lesser Vehicle schools hold that what is abandoned by seeing must be abandoned only by the transcendent path, but what is abandoned by meditation can also be abandoned by the worldly path, so it is possible to abandon the meditation-abandoned of the desire realm even before the seeing-abandoned. Such a case is called the path of transgression, and it is held that there are both stream-enterers and once-returners. According to the Great Vehicle, what is abandoned by meditation cannot be abandoned by the worldly path, because the worldly path only suppresses the head of what is to be abandoned, but cannot uproot it. The worldly path here refers to meditative concentration of calm abiding without being associated with wisdom of insight, while the transcendent path is the union of calm abiding and insight associated with the wisdom of realizing selflessness. Regarding the way to abandon what is abandoned by seeing, the Lesser Vehicle schools hold that there are sixteen moments of the path of seeing. For example, when seeing the truth of suffering, in the first of the four moments of the path of seeing, at the time of the forbearance of suffering-dharma, the ten that are abandoned by seeing of the suffering of the desire realm are abandoned. At the time of dharma-knowledge, the antidote wisdom arises.

In the stage of subsequent forbearance, eighteen afflictions to be abandoned by seeing related to suffering in the form and formless realms are abandoned. In the stage of subsequent knowledge, the wisdom of the antidote arises. Likewise, applying this to the other three truths, twenty-eight are abandoned in four groups, thus abandoning a total of one hundred and twelve afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. According to the Mahayana view, all the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing in the three realms are abandoned all at once, in a single sweep. Moreover, it is held that they are abandoned only during the stage of the Dharma-knowledge of each truth. Therefore, concerning these sixteen moments of the path of seeing, according to the Hinayana view, it is said that even the Sravaka schools have many different views. In the Mahayana, Master Sanghabhadra holds that, in general, some believe that sixteen moments occur sequentially in relation to the moments of individual discernment, while in relation to the moment of Suchness itself, it is considered to be one moment. Others say that there are two systems of thought: some believe that both the moment of individual dependence and the moment of Suchness itself are a single moment. He explains that according to his own system, the sixteen moments occur sequentially. The so-called moment of individual discernment refers to the fact that, in relation to the object to be determined, it is impossible to simultaneously sever the superimpositions on the four truths all at once. Therefore, in relation to the gradual severance of superimpositions on each of the four truths, there are sixteen moments. The so-called moment of Suchness itself refers to the fact that there is no distinction in the nature of reality to be realized, so it is considered to be one moment of directly seeing selflessness. In the treatises of the noble Asanga, the sixteen moments of the four truths are viewed as follows: First, in the stage of the Dharma-forbearance of suffering, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing are abandoned. In the stage of Dharma-knowledge, the wisdom of the antidote arises. With subsequent forbearance, one ascertains that these two wisdoms of Dharma-forbearance and Dharma-knowledge are also the basis of the noble path. With subsequent knowledge, one knows that subsequent forbearance is also the basis of the noble path. Therefore, Dharma-forbearance and Dharma-knowledge are object-oriented, focusing on the truth of suffering, and are the object-possessors that are apprehended. Subsequent forbearance and subsequent knowledge are object-possessors that apprehend the wisdom of the object-possessor. This school posits the sixteen moments as a way of introducing certainty in the stage of subsequent attainment, merely as a proliferation for the sake of the Dharma remaining.
