It can also be understood by examining the nature of emptiness as it is spoken of. Furthermore, some people say that after realizing emptiness, there is no need to study vast conduct, which is also speaking to deceive with lies. It is only after realizing emptiness that one studies conduct. How can one study conduct without realizing emptiness? How can a child who cannot get out of bed dance among the audience? What is the use of conduct after realizing emptiness? Because giving and other actions are for the sake of realizing emptiness. If you say that, then it is true that you do not understand the general meaning of the Mahayana path at all, and you hold the Hinayana path to be the Mahayana. However, it is like this: In the offering and praise of the treatise, it says: "Those who benefit beings, accomplish the meaning of the world with the wisdom of the path." As it is said, the ultimate intention of the Bodhisattvas is to benefit others, therefore, relying on the vast means of conduct such as giving, fulfilling the wishes of limitless sentient beings is the main practice of the Mahayana path. Before that, if there is no direct realization of emptiness, one cannot comprehend the equality of oneself and others, therefore, conduct will not be pure. Therefore, the direct realization of emptiness is the preliminary of the vast conduct of the sons of the Buddhas. How can it be the main and ultimate endeavor of the Mahayana path? The Ornament of the Sutras also says: "Having well understood the nature of Dharma here, one learns the higher discipline, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom." And also in the classification of Bodhisattvas, it is said: "During the seven impure grounds, one abides in conduct." Just as it is said. Furthermore, conduct is necessary for the continuity of practice, it is not the ultimate of the Mahayana path. In the Sutras, the Blessed One said: "Until the eighth ground is attained, the Buddhas do not give me predictions, because I abide in conduct, and after attaining the eighth ground, I am predicted because I have completely transcended all conduct." If you think so, then its meaning is: As mentioned above, there is no path of no signs and no effort below the seventh ground, because there is no union of non-discrimination and altruistic conduct, so there is a subtle aspect of clinging to reality in conduct.

It is said to abide in conduct, and after attaining the eighth bhumi, the effort without characteristics and exertion is manifested, so even the subtle attachment to conduct is removed, and spontaneous accomplishment arises, therefore it is said to transcend conduct. However, at this time, if one enters the realm of non-discrimination and quiescence, there is concern that it will become annihilationist nirvana, so the Buddhas repeatedly urge to act for the benefit of others. If conduct is not the ultimate of the path, what is the use of urging? Furthermore, if the practice of generosity etc. is not learned for the sake of realizing emptiness, then it contradicts what is said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra, "All these limbs, the Buddha taught for the sake of wisdom." If so, the wisdom here is learning, as the teacher Dignāga said, "Wisdom gone to the other shore is non-dual, that wisdom is the Tathāgata." As it is said when identifying the nature of wisdom in the Prajñāpāramitā scriptures: "When reality and unreality, do not abide before the mind, then there is no other aspect, objectless quiescence is extremely blissful." Thus, wisdom is determined as the realm free from elaboration. In this way, to dispel the argument that the form body does not arise for the sake of others, it is immediately said: "Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, a wish-fulfilling tree, how it fulfills all desires, likewise, for those to be tamed, by the power of aspiration, the body of the Victor appears." Thus it is said. Even so, the main thing of the Mahāyāna path will still become the wisdom of realizing selflessness. Because what the Mahāyāna path seeks is the Buddha-fruit of abandoning the two obscurations, and this must be manifested by profound wisdom. Are you still not abandoning the evil thought of clinging to the Hinayana path as the Mahāyāna path, and saying this? What the Mahāyāna path seeks is not the Buddha-fruit of abandoning the two obscurations. In the context of praise, "With what does the Thus-gone One truly possess, the Buddhas proclaim this variety possessing all aspects." In this context, the Buddha said, "Relying on skillful omniscient means, the fruit is turning the wheel of Dharma." Therefore, if the ultimate goal is the Buddha-fruit, then what fruit is needed for that? Therefore, both temporarily and ultimately, the main thing sought by the Mahāyāna path is benefiting others,

The actual method of practice is the conduct of generosity and other aspects of enlightenment on the path, and the enlightened activities of the Buddha himself at the fruition stage. The main cause that precedes or accomplishes both of these is wisdom, so wisdom is said to be supreme and foremost. As stated in the Compendium: 'Wisdom precedes generosity; likewise, morality, patience, and diligence. To prevent virtuous teachings from being wasted, it is fully embraced.' And: 'Billions and trillions of blind people without guides, do not know the path, how can they enter the city? Without wisdom, like being without eyes, the other five perfections, without a guide, will not touch enlightenment.' Therefore, wisdom is said to precede like a guide for the blind. First, generate non-conceptual wisdom, the realization of emptiness, in your own mindstream, and then diligently engage in altruistic activities for countless eons through the ocean of bodhisattva conduct such as generosity, perfecting, maturing, and purifying them, and then actualizing the ultimate reality. This is the correct connection of the path. Also, when explaining the order of the six perfections, it is said: 'If one does not look to enjoyment, one will keep morality. If one keeps morality, one will be patient.' This is said as cause and effect. Because generosity is the means to accomplish enjoyment, morality leads to higher realms, meditation pacifies afflictions, and wisdom pacifies all afflictions and objects of knowledge, therefore, this is supreme, and hearing is the cause of it. The differences between superior and inferior that are mentioned refer to the generosity and so on of ordinary beings. It is also acceptable to explain the meaning of the verses from the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life in this way. Therefore, in the stages of accumulation and application, learning to accumulate merit by training one's own mindstream with generosity and so on is merely a cause for generating profound view in one's own mindstream. It is not the practice of the vast conduct of the bodhisattva, nor is it characterized by the six perfections, because it does not possess non-conceptual wisdom, nor does it diminish opposing factors, nor does it fulfill the desires of sentient beings based on it, nor does it attain any of the three enlightenments according to their capacity.
