Those are the characteristics of emptiness as the essence of clinging. Second, there are two parts to the detailed explanation. First, the detailed explanation of what is grasped, from "essence of self" and so on to "born from mind": the essence of self devoid of the cause and effect of enlightenment; the lineage of the Great Vehicle; the perfect accomplishment of the noble path; knowing the way things are; accepting and rejecting what should be abandoned and cultivated; the realization of making manifest what has not been attained in one's own realm; accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings; the activity of that work; the result of the work, nirvana, there are nine in total. These are also divided into general and specific, the latter having three: cause, path, and result. The path has three: essence, object, and the ability to eliminate unfavorable conditions. The result has two: self-benefit and benefit of others. The benefit of others has three: accomplishment, activity, and result, corresponding sequentially from the second Bhumi onwards. Holding onto characteristics and having little compassion, thus realization is inferior; without the guidance that clings to samsara and nirvana; since it is not the antidote to all two obscurations, the aspect of the path is incomplete; relying on the Dharma taught by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, even for the sake of the extreme of existence, one is driven by other conditions; since one does not enter the path for the sake of the three great purposes, what is done is reversed; abandoning what should be abandoned is only a partial abandonment; from stream-enterer to arhat, realizations are different, thus it is mixed; being ignorant of the place of entry into omniscience or the benefit of others; after attaining the nirvana of one's own path, one then proceeds to omniscience, there are nine in total. These are realization, guidance, path, faculty, inferior skillful means, that is, five inferior paths; abandonment, realization, benefit of others, nirvana, that is, four inferior results, there are nine in total. The former nine grasped discriminations are clinging to the truth of entering the Great Vehicle path; the latter nine are the aspect of clinging to the truth of what is to be abandoned by the Lesser Vehicle. Second, the detailed explanation of the grasping discrimination, from "clinging and" and so on to "is another discrimination": one who accepts and rejects virtues and faults as illusory conventional truths; one who contemplates all dharmas as illusions; one who focuses on the three realms with characteristic contemplation; one who clings to form and so on and abides; clinging to the manifest, making all dharmas as objects; the terminology of all dharmas

Those who merely recognize it as a designation, those who are attached to and diligently practice the six perfections, those who regard samsara and nirvana as something to be accepted or rejected as an antidote, and those who, being separated from the Prajnaparamita, know that the activities of giving, etc., go as they please, that is, those who are attached to the nine objects as having a real self. These are also two things: falling away from the path of non-attachment and not attaining complete enlightenment. The first has three aspects: conduct, object of knowledge, and abandonment of antidote. Conduct has three aspects: motivation, essence, and fault. The object of knowledge has three aspects: attachment to things, permanence, and convention. Abandonment of antidote has two aspects: abandonment and attachment to the antidote. The three great purposes do not arise as they are, and those who definitely hold the correct path, the Great Vehicle, to be an incorrect path, and those who recognize that the cessation of the result and the arising of the cause are merely conventionally designated, but are designated as the essence, and those who know that all things exist without difference in the ultimate truth and do not exist without difference in the conventional truth, and those who abide without attachment to all dharmas, and those of the Hearer-Solitary Realizer lineage who destroy their minds with the mere purpose of pacification, and those who realize that they desire Buddhahood but have no real purpose, and those who teach the Dharma in the ultimate truth, etc., those who realize that there is no cause, and those who, by becoming accustomed to the opposing side of the six perfections, oppose for the sake of the four maras and the two grounds, that is, those who know that the object of reality is existent, etc., are nine. The nine are those who truly cling to the self that is examined in the mindstream that possesses these opposing antidotal dharmas. These are also two, six, and one, which are held by the path of the Hearer-Solitary Realizer and the path of the Bodhisattva, and the opposing side of both of these. Second, in explaining the antidote, there are two types: incidental and direct. The first is the friend of the peak of seeing and its result. The first is from "to enlightenment, others, etc." to "is the nature." There are two types: taming others and one's own mindstream. The first also has two types: establishing in the Dharma of realization and the Dharma of scripture. The first is: as a means of establishing other trainees in enlightenment, teaching or generating the path of seeing, the path of meditation, etc., in the mindstream. The second is: listening to and holding the meaning of the words of the cause, the Prajnaparamita Mother Sutra, and establishing it through properly applying it to the mind.
