Lacking the six roots, skilled and unskilled in means; wanting or not wanting to ask about obtaining or not obtaining dharanis; being connected to the beginning and end of listening and teaching, whether defiled or undefiled; desiring to turn away from the suffering of others and craving happiness; delighting in being alone with one's retinue in teaching and listening; not distinguishing the occasion for followers and not giving what is desired; wanting or not wanting to harm life, famine, or theft; being uncomfortable with alms, looking at houses, and listening. The three adverse conditions that depend on others are: separating the Dharma of demons and individuals; showing the meaning of ugliness meditation, etc., as the essence; and creating joy for the emanated demons of Buddhas, etc. The third is the characteristic of knowable objects, which is briefly shown from the aspect of essence and extensively explained from the aspect of differentiation. The first is from "What is symbolized by that," etc., to "also symbolized." What symbolizes these yogas of the three knowledges is the realization of the knowledge of the basis, path, and all aspects, being particularly superior to the Lesser Vehicle, and being able to generate the activity of benefiting others. Since those yogas are the basis of what is symbolized by the first three, the nature and characteristics are shown to be the same basis. These are to be known as the characteristics of the yogas. That is, what symbolizes is known by giving power to the agent, especially the agent, which is the first three characteristics. And what is symbolized is shown to be the same basis of the symbolized and the characteristic by giving power to the object from the characteristic of the nature. The second is the extensive explanation from the aspect of differentiation: the knower, the difference, the agent, and the characteristic of the nature. The first has three: the knowledge of the basis, the knowledge of the path, and the characteristic of the knowledge of omniscience. The first is the characteristic of the knowledge of the basis knowledge: "The arising of the Tathagata," etc., is the summary of the characteristic of knowledge. That is, depending on the mother of yoga of the basis knowledge, knowing the arising of the powers of the Tathagata, etc., and knowing that the world of the five aggregates is only constant and has the nature of not being destroyed in an instant, and knowing immeasurably that the behavior of the minds of all sentient beings, eighty-four thousand, is the essence of the uncontrived Dharmadhatu, and by being equally placed in suchness, the mind is collected and not destroyed, but nominally destroyed.

Knowing and the mind that is not in meditative equipoise, looking outward is a wrong path, conventionally it is scattering outward, knowing that it alone is not scattered; knowing that the mind of gathering and scattering, in reality, is without decay, therefore it is the aspect of inexhaustibility; knowing that the mind of ordinary beings has desire, has hatred, has ignorance, knowing that the mind of noble ones is free from these is without elaboration; knowing that the mind of the essence of the Dharma realm is vast, because it is pervasive, the mind becomes great; also, the meaning of becoming great is equality, therefore knowing that all sentient beings are without self in ultimate truth, conventionally with an illusory body, equally as the basis for obtaining qualities; because the basis of entering is not definite for each, the number and measure cannot be measured, therefore knowing that the mind is immeasurable; because there is no example or because it is empty by its own nature, therefore knowing that name and consciousness or mind is unshowable; because there is no self-nature, the five eyes of the Tathagata also cannot see, therefore knowing that the mind is invisible; regarding the four views of self and world being permanent and impermanent, neither one nor the other. Regarding the four views of having boundaries and not having boundaries, neither one nor the other. Regarding the four views of the Tathagata arising from the village after death and not arising, neither one nor the other. Regarding the two views of body and life being one or different, there are fourteen unanswered views in total. Among them, the first three are wavering, the third is the unfolding of three and thirteen, the second is the gathering of three, the fourth is the contraction of three and fourteen. The first two do not prohibit actions, the mind enters its own object, therefore it is establishment, the latter two prohibit actions, the mind does not enter the object, therefore it enters by way of negation, combine them. Thus, know that the views such as wavering arise relying on the illusory five aggregates, and are not established as their clinging. Know that the minds such as wavering can also be known beyond the conventional way of knowing, that is, the five aggregates are suchness, without error suchness, etc., knowing without elaboration, therefore wavering etc. are also the aspect of suchness. The Tathagata knows suchness, just as he himself realized, he shows and teaches or establishes it to other beings to be tamed, know that. Sixteen.
