For example, just as a washerman exerts great effort to remove fine dirt adhering to clothes, but can remove coarse dirt with little effort, similarly, by abandoning these faults, one can accomplish the ninth stage of the Mahāyāna path, becoming the antidote to all defilements. So, what is such a path like? It is the realization of equality, free from elaboration, where the measuring consciousness with the aspect of the three realms and the objects to be measured are not apprehended as truly existent. This is considered the antidote to the three realms. This can be seen in the second chapter commentary on the Path Wisdom section of the Treatise on the Perfection of Wisdom Instructions, the Ornament for Clear Realization. Homage to the venerable Mañjuśrī! Third, the detailed explanation of the branches of the foundational wisdom to be abandoned has six aspects: the nature of the foundational wisdom, the reasons for establishing nearness and distance, the distinctions between what is to be abandoned and the antidotes, how to practice, the results of such practice, and the conclusion of the three wisdoms. First, the nature of the foundational wisdom is: from "this shore, that shore," etc., it is explained as having arrived, that is, the saṃsāra of this shore, which is traveled and seen by ordinary beings, with the conceptual thoughts of the aggregates' continuum, and the nirvāṇa of that shore, which is not traveled or seen by ordinary beings, with the characteristic of believing that the aggregates' continuum is extinguished, and also not abiding between saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, not abiding in saṃsāra with wisdom, not abiding in peace with compassion, and not having any other place to abide, therefore not abiding in the middle, and knowing the equality of the forms of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, etc., the dharmas of the three times, in the aspect of unbornness, this is the foundational wisdom of a bodhisattva who is close to the true mother, therefore it is considered the perfection of wisdom. The opposite of this is the foundational wisdom of a śrāvaka or pratyekabuddha who is far from the true mother, that is, clinging to the continuous flow of saṃsāra as real and clinging to the extinction of the aggregates of nirvāṇa as unreal, and implicitly indicating the lack of wisdom and compassion.

Companions such as virtuous friends. Buddhas, lacking skillful means for accomplishment, are distant from the true mother, the antidote of fundamental wisdom. Bodhisattvas, on the other hand, possess skillful means that are the opposite of this, and are therefore said to be close. Thirdly, concerning the distinctions of what is to be abandoned and the antidote, there are two: the abandonment of clinging to characteristics on the ground and path, and on the result; and the conclusion of these. The first has two aspects: what is to be abandoned and the antidote. First, what is to be abandoned is what is called the 'discordant side' from the aggregates such as form onwards. That is, understanding the five aggregates such as form as emptiness, empty of self by other means; understanding phenomena belonging to the three times as existing in those times; and understanding generosity and so forth, the perfections, aspects of enlightenment, and so forth, as characteristics to be practiced on the path, are the discordant aspects of the antidote of fundamental wisdom. Second, the antidote is, as stated, 'from generosity and so forth, by preventing.' That is, the three circles being completely pure, not clinging to the self of the giver, receiver, and object of generosity and so forth, abiding in that state and causing others to engage in it as well, is in every way the antidote, because all bases of attachment are blocked by wisdom, thus preventing the extreme of attachment. And, by not clinging to the emptiness of the aggregates and the characteristics of the three times, the antidote to the first two to be abandoned is shown by implication. Second, the abandonment of clinging to characteristics on the result includes: the nature of attachment, the cause of attachment, the antidote, and the meaning derived from the cause. First is: subtle attachment to the Victorious Ones and so forth. That is, contemplating the Victorious Ones and so forth as characteristics, and accumulating the collection of merit of virtue through prostrations and so forth, although it is the antidote to karmic obscurations and so forth, it is nevertheless the very nature of subtle clinging, and is therefore a discordant aspect of the bodhisattva path. Second, the reason is: the path of phenomena is by nature solitary. Because of remoteness, it is profound. That is, the way of being of the path of phenomena is the nature of phenomena, solitary by nature, and is therefore profound. Therefore, holding the objects of refuge as truly existent is also to be abandoned. Third, the antidote is: by knowing that all phenomena are of one nature, attachment is abandoned. That is, by knowing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, of one nature, that attachment is abandoned. Fourth, it is about the reasons for being profound and difficult to realize.
