They were not spoken of in that way because they had not become vessels of the doctrine. Furthermore, the reason why the other two paths besides the path of seeing were not mentioned in the context of special characteristics is that the path of seeing is the result of the path of joining and the cause of the path of meditation. Therefore, if it is explained in relation to that, the other two are also understood. If there is no difference in the cause, then the difference in the result will become without cause. If there is a difference in the cause, but there is no difference in the result, then the cause will become meaningless. Fourth, there are three aspects to the part of liberation that is to be relied upon in the continuum: the basis on which it arises, the nature of the path of reliance, and the signs and meanings of the words. First, there are two bases. The first is the physical basis. The Commentary on the Treasury states: "It arises only among humans. In the lower realms, there is no wisdom, no pleasant sound, and in the heavens, there is no weariness. Therefore, it is said that it does not arise in those realms. This is the view of the Vaibhashikas. The Mahayanists say: 'At that time, hundreds of thousands of gods and humans generated the mind of enlightenment.' It is also said that twenty-one thousand nagas generated the mind of enlightenment in the Mahayana. Similarly, the sons of the gods of the form realm were also made into vessels capable of generating the wisdom of the path by the light of the Thus-Gone One. Therefore, there is no certainty that it is only in the desire realm and among humans." Second, the mental basis. According to the Compendium, this has the characteristic of being meditation-born and also relies on the mind of meditative concentration. According to the Treasury, there is no meditation-born, so it relies only on the desire realm. Although it is said that this is the case in the Sutra School, according to the Mahayana, such as the great accumulation path, it mostly relies on the actual practice of the fourth dhyana, which has already been mentioned in the oral instructions. Second, the nature of the path of reliance. The Treasury says that it is the actions of the three doors and listening and thinking. The Compendium says that it is something that has meditation-born, and is a vessel capable of directly realizing the antidote truth and actually abandoning what is to be abandoned. Third, the general signs of the accumulation path are: The Commentary on the Treasury says: "If one hears words that speak of the faults of samsara, and of selflessness, and of the qualities of nirvana, then one's hair stands on end, and one sheds tears, then one should know that he has the roots of virtue that are in accordance with the part of liberation, just as one knows that there are seeds in the middle of the battlefield from the sprouts that grow in the summer." Thus, the virtue generated by the thought of renunciation

Even if a single root arises in the continuum, one will obtain a portion of the path of accumulation. The signs of a special path of accumulation are as stated in the "Sunlight Sutra": "Whatever indicates correspondence with the aspect of liberation, this has three signs: a mind that does not shrink back, the characteristic of being without anxiety; not being haughty, the characteristic of being without fear; and having no regret in mind, the characteristic of not becoming frightened," which means not being afraid of profound meanings, etc. Why is it called corresponding to the aspect of liberation? The "Sunlight Sutra" says: "Here, liberation is the distinction of separation, and because it benefits its aspect, it corresponds to the aspect of liberation." Thus it is said. The "Clear Words" says: "In the eight unfavorable conditions, etc., the heat, etc., that separates from the coarsest afflictive actions that throw one into them, are explained as liberation." Secondly, there are three aspects to the meditation in which a special application arises in the continuum: the time when the special application arises, the individual who is the basis of its arising, and the stages of meditation of that individual. The first has two aspects: the actual and the abandonment of repetition. First, the time when the special application arises is: corresponding to the four aspects of ascertainment. That is, the realization of meditative equipoise has already been taught in the context of omniscience. In the post-meditative state, the application of benefiting others is the main focus, as stated here in the context of all aspects, which should be understood from the scriptures. Second, the abandonment of repetition is: In the first six realizations, the three paths of application, seeing, and meditation are taught directly or indirectly as appropriate. If it is said that these are repetitive because the objects of expression are not different and are repeatedly taught, the answer to this is found in the treatise of the teacher Senge Zangpo: In the first three stages, the three realizations spoken of by the term "three paths" are just as the words say, but mainly they refer to the path of application that realizes all aspects, paths, and bases as unborn in a general way, the path of seeing that newly realizes directly, and the path of meditation that cultivates seeing and meditates on it. Because they are the three paths that depend on the three aspects of the object to be realized—base, path, and aspects—they are not repetitive. In the first three applications, the three realizations spoken of by the term "three paths" are not characterized as the words express, so they are not repetitive. That is, the eighth, ninth, and tenth grounds are the basis for establishment, and they are divided into small, medium, and large according to the faculties of power, dullness, etc.
