It is necessary to do so. Fifth is the definition: It is for establishing the perception of form in oneself. Sixth, for what purpose is the observation? It is to counteract the obscuration of transforming external objects as one wishes. This is just an example; in addition, it is said in the "Ground Chapter" that it is for accomplishing exhaustion, subjugation, the miraculous powers of the noble ones, freedom from afflictions, knowing according to wishes, individual accurate knowledge, and so on. Second, the liberation of formless contemplation of form is: everything else is the same as before, but the difference in the basis is that one has attained the first liberation. The way of observing is to contemplate oneself as the four names of space, which are formless, and then observe. In this case, it is easy if one has attained the formless, but even if one has not, one must establish the perception of formlessness. Even if one has attained the formless, one only establishes the mind of the formless, and does not generate actual absorption, as stated in the "Actualities of the Ground." Therefore, some treatises say that the basis of these two is either form or formlessness at will, which is only with the intention that those who have attained the formless can also meditate, but since many sutras say that the actualities of the formless do not take form as an object, they do not rely on the formless. The definition is: it is to completely destroy the perception of form in oneself. The meaning of establishing or not establishing the perception of form in oneself in these two is: for the sake of the transformer appearing or not appearing when transforming. Third, there are four aspects of the ugly liberation: First, the individual is the same as before, but the difference is that one has attained the first two liberations. The ground is based on the fourth dhyana. The need is: to counteract the desire to transform into a beautiful form and the thought of not wanting to transform into an unlovely form. How is the method? It relies on the three perceptions of mutual dependence, mutual connection, and mutual sameness of taste. The first of these is: like three vases of gold, silver, and copper, for the three forms of lovely, unlovely, and intermediate, contemplate that the silver vase is lovely relative to the copper vase and unlovely relative to the gold vase, so that the attachment to lovely and unlovely without dependence is reversed. The second is that the two, unlovely relative to the gold vase and lovely relative to the copper vase, are connected to one silver vase and practiced.

Attachment to unpleasantness and pleasantness will cease. The third is that, by meditating as the previous two, without clinging to any one side of all pleasant and unpleasant things, one obtains the perception that everything is either suffering or a desire for transformation, and this is the time of accomplishment. Why are three liberations established on the path of transformation? If one does not regard the uncertainty of size and goodness, one cannot transform from that to something else, therefore the first two. Although one obtains faith in their uncertainty, if one does not prevent clinging to one side of pleasantness and unpleasantness, one does not want to transform the unpleasant, and if one does not transform it, the transformation is not complete, so one must practice the third. If one enters into samadhi, one can abide in happiness in this life, which is the path that benefits body and mind, and there are five of these. What are they? First, the path of liberation, nirvana, and abiding in accordance with the manifestation of afflictions, there are four foundations of formless samadhi. This is the formless liberation, and it is also practiced to cut off the craving for tasting the flavor in the formless realm, so as not to mix with it. Second, the nature of the path where afflictions such as attachment or mental events are pacified and abide, since the main object to be negated is its own nature, there is one liberation of cessation of perception and feeling, which is manifested in order to be liberated from the obscuration of cessation of perception and feeling. The difference between the four formless ones and the samadhi of cessation and liberation is that samadhi is achieved by making the great elements of the body or the objects of mental events equal, and liberation is established from the aspect of being liberated from the afflictions of one's own realm and not mixing with them. The Kosha says: The meaning of liberation is turning away from the lower ground, so the paths of no interruption in the path of application are not liberation, but the paths of liberation are, and the path of application is also considered as liberation. Thus, the first three arise for the sake of others, and then the five are those who act for the sake of others, the liberation that abides in happiness for the sake of one's own visible meaning, which is eight. Fourth, there are nine paths beyond the world. That is, the eight meditations and the cessation samadhi are nine. These are also aspects based on the knowledge of the path, so they are Bodhisattvas.
