It will become a dispute. That is the root of all views. If it is not, afflictions will not arise. Therefore, if it is fully understood, views and afflictions will completely disappear. Who can understand it? It is seeing dependent origination. Saying "those born from dependence are unborn," is the teaching of the perfectly wise. And in the Ratnavali it says: As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there will be self-grasping. If there is self-grasping, there will be karma, and from that karma, rebirth will arise. The three paths have no beginning, no end, and no middle. The circle of samsara is like a wheel of fire, with causes between each other. This will become samsara. Because it does not see self and other, and the three times, self-grasping will be exhausted, and then karma and rebirth will also be exhausted. And so on. Second, explaining the meaning of the scriptures: That is, the previous scripture says that if there is clinging to things, attachment and so on will arise, and if there is no clinging, those will be eliminated. The later scripture says that if there is clinging to things, there will be self-grasping and the view of the perishable aggregate, and from those afflictions, karma arising from them, and the subsequent arising of existence from those two, and because seeing that those are not established in the nature of self, other, and the three times, it is said that self-grasping and so on will cease, thus showing that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realized the absence of self of phenomena. Because the Hearers and Solitary Realizers Arhats have completely abandoned the view of the perishable aggregate and attachment, hatred, and so on, and believe that they will not be reborn due to karma and afflictions. Therefore, what is said in the Ratnavali cannot be explained as being directed towards Bodhisattvas, because it is said as before, and at the end of showing nirvana from samsara without taking, it also says: Thus, even Bodhisattvas, after seeing, will surely desire enlightenment. And so on. Following those, glorious Chandrakirti, Jaya Ananta, the teacher Shantideva, Simhabhadra, Devadeva, Vimalamitra, and others believe that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realized the absence of inherent existence of phenomena. Third, eliminating the dispute about this: Here, if the Sutra Pitaka and Maitreya say that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have not realized the absence of self of phenomena, how should that be understood? Then, in other scriptures it says: There is a person who carries a burden, it cannot be said to be permanent or impermanent. How should it be understood that there is an unspeakable person? That was said in order to guide those who are particularly attached to the view of self.

If someone asks, 'Is there such a thought?' Then, for those who proclaim the meaning of fearing to teach selflessness, etc., for the sake of straightforward meaning, it is taught that liberation is achieved through impermanence and the selflessness of the individual. Thus, the intention of establishing the path of impermanence, etc., for hearers and self-realizers, without realizing the selflessness of phenomena, is that there is no complete meditation on the selflessness of phenomena. The necessity has already been stated. The harm to reality is: If there is attachment to the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., and there is no other path for them, then it is not permissible to claim that they have completely abandoned afflictions and become noble ones, because both the path and the afflictions are directed towards the same object, the aggregates, and similarly enter into its reality in a mistaken way, and because the mind deviates from the nature of the four truths, they do not see the truth as it is. Furthermore, afflictions such as attachment have the cause of grasping the aggregates as true, and if they completely grasp the aggregates as true, then how can the result be completely reversed when the cause has not changed? If hearers and self-realizers realize the selflessness of phenomena, then there would be no difference from the Great Vehicle. The Precious Garland answers: 'The Hearer Vehicle is different from that, the aspirations and conduct of the Bodhisattva are not fully explained, how could one become a Bodhisattva?' And it is said that there is no complete meditation on the selflessness of phenomena either. If these differences are known, then the doubt about whether hearers and self-realizers will become noble ones will also be dispelled. Furthermore, in the equipoise of these, there is no manifest conceptualization that thinks impermanence, etc., are true. Because it is yogic direct perception, it is free from verbal conceptualization, as stated in the Sutra on Valid Cognition: 'Taught by the supreme of yogis, only the unmixed meaning is seen.' Yogic direct perception makes the phenomena of the four truths its object without mixing them with names. The Compendium also says: 'When transcendental wisdom enters into the aspect of truth, it sees the meaning of impermanence, but it is not impermanence itself. Just as it is with impermanence itself, so it is with the remaining aspects.' Third, the divisions of what is to be abandoned and the antidotes have three: the basis and the path, the conduct,
