We say that it is not the case that one does not abandon afflictions because afflictions are needed as a cause for taking rebirth. If those were not to be abandoned, it would contradict their being afflictions. If so, since they are not abandoned by the wisdom of the path and there is no other antidote to them, they would also exist when one becomes a Buddha. If the cause for this rebirth requires the nature of afflictions, it would contradict the two sutras. So what is it? It is not like the Hearers who abandon existence in their minds because they are afraid of the result of afflictions, but rather, considering that they take rebirth for the sake of others and strive to accomplish this, they are said not to abandon afflictions. In short, it is merely labeled as not abandoning afflictions because they do not abandon existence, which is similar to the result of afflictions. If it were not so, it would be contradictory to have completely abandoned the predispositions of ignorance but not abandoned the predispositions of desire and attachment, because if the cause ceases, the result will also cease. In the "Sunlight Sutra," it also says: "With the wisdom and compassion of complete apprehension, Bodhisattvas should be made neither bound nor liberated in sequence, therefore this is said to be the state itself. The compassion of Bodhisattvas is what delights in existence." Because the sutra says that compassion makes Bodhisattvas not liberated from existence, compassion itself is the cause of being born in existence. As it says in the "Precious Garland": "However, with compassion, one takes rebirth until enlightenment." It is like that. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas control afflictions with skillful means and wisdom, so they do not generate faults and also become helpers in accomplishing the path. Therefore, unlike Hearers who hold them to be completely contradictory, they also do not abandon afflictions. Thus, this explanation of the cause of taking rebirth after attaining the grounds is actually the view of the sutras and commentaries that combines the views of the noble Lion Subduer, the noble Asanga, the noble Vimuktisena, and the teachers into one, and it is the ultimate key point of Bodhisattvas not abiding in peace with compassion. Third, the difference in activities is: gathering beings who have not been gathered into a retinue, ripening those who have been gathered, and liberating those who have been ripened. Second, the actual path with limbs has three: the Hearer's path, the Solitary Realizer's path, and the Bodhisattva's path. First, the Hearer's path has two: the path to be known and the way to know it. First, the path to be known has two:

The aspects of the two truths of defilement and purification. First, there are two: the individual aspects and the common aspects. First, the individual aspects of the two truths are divided into two: the aspects of suffering and the origin. First, the aspects of suffering are: impermanence because it arises and ceases; suffering because it is tainted and appears undesirable to the noble ones; selflessness because it is empty of a self of other meaning; and the peace of selflessness because it has become its essence. Second, the aspects of the origin are: like a disease because it is the root cause of suffering; like a fruit because it is the origin of the accumulation of suffering; like a thorn because intense suffering arises immediately; and like a sin because suffering arises continuously. These are the four aspects. Second, the common aspects of suffering and origin are: being other because it is refuted by outsiders; being of the nature of destruction because it is of the nature of destruction; being moving because its own essence does not remain in itself; being utterly destroyed because it is destroyed by the appropriate antidote when the time is right; being fearful because it has become a place of harm in this life and the next; being like an epidemic because it has become a place of harm for sentient beings such as demons; and being harmful because it is a place of harm for non-sentient beings such as disturbances of the elements and hail. Of these seven, the first two are aversion, the next two are detachment from desire, and the last three are aspects of cessation. Second, the aspects of the purification side are divided into the aspects of cessation and the path. First, the aspects of the truth of cessation are: selflessness because there is no affliction or suffering of self-grasping; peace because suffering and affliction are pacified; the aspect of solitude because it is the nature of excellent essence, bliss, and purity, or because it is separated from impurity; emptiness because it is the nature of definite liberation and constant benefit, and is separated from self; signlessness because it is separated from the characteristics of compounded phenomena; wishlessness because it is the exhaustion of desire for the three realms; and the aspect of non-manifestation because it does not manifest or accumulate the karma of future birth and change. These are the seven. Second, the aspects of the truth of the path are: being a path because it leads to liberation; being wisdom because it is the antidote to affliction; the mind follows
