Although it may be mistaken, it will definitely happen; the realm of sentient beings is like the sky, and the amount cannot be determined, so the decrease is not obvious; the emptiness of emptiness, which has no beginning and no end, is spoken of as the basis of samsara, and it is good to be content with the reason of infinity for a while, but it should not be taken as a prophecy, so the stone is not important. Second, the difference in essence is: Those Bodhisattvas who have generated the supreme Bodhicitta, having gained freedom over the afflictions, practice Bodhi for a long time, because the afflictions that are the cause of taking birth in samsara are not abandoned in any stage of the path, because they are engaged in benefiting sentient beings until samsara exists. So, what are the afflictions that are not abandoned? There are two answers to this: first, to show the cause of taking birth; second, to refute and determine with an answer. First, there are two ways to show the cause of taking birth: one is what is said in the scriptures, as in the "Sunlight Sutra": Bodhisattvas do not have even the slightest latent tendencies of ignorance and views, but they do have latent tendencies included in the desire realm and the realm of existence. And it is stated that consciously taking birth is the proof of this. These two refer to the place of attachment in the desire realm and the upper realms, so it must be understood in this way. Second, what is said in the sutras also has two aspects: as stated in the "Ocean of Wisdom Sutra": As it is said, what are the afflictions that are the cause of samsara and are associated with the roots of virtue? That is, not being satisfied with seeking the accumulation of merit, consciously and completely grasping taking birth, seeking to meet the Buddhas, not being tired of maturing sentient beings, diligently upholding the Dharma, striving for all the activities of sentient beings, not being separated from attachment to the Dharma, and not abandoning the practice of the perfections, these are eight. If these are roots of virtue and not afflictions, then the statement that afflictions are associated with roots of virtue is unreasonable, and the question is: Blessed One, when these are roots of virtue, why are they afflictions?
