On the other hand, it mainly concerns the obscurations of knowledge and afflictive obscurations. First, the common aspect of the obscurations of knowledge is the one hundred and eight conceptual thoughts of grasping and being grasped that will be explained. The uncommon aspects are that each of the ten bhumis has two kinds of extreme ignorance, and each of their opposing factors. For example, the first bhumi has attachment to the person and phenomena, and the afflictions of the lower realms; the second has subtle downfalls and the manifestation of various actions; the third is the ground of desire, and the inability to perfect the dharani of hearing; the fourth is craving for meditative absorption and craving for the Dharma; the fifth is not single-mindedly inclined towards samsara but appears to be inclined, wanting to be completely ignorant of mental activity, and not single-mindedly inclined towards nirvana but appearing to be inclined towards mental activity; the sixth is the inability to manifest the activity of conditioned phenomena, and the arising of many signs, completely ignorant, completely ignorant; the seventh is the arising of subtle signs, and the skillful means of signless mental activity; the eighth is exertion on the signless, and not having power over the signs; the ninth is the immeasurable teaching of the Dharma and the words and letters of the Dharma, and complete ignorance of skillful means, and complete ignorance of the adornment of the signless; from higher to higher is wisdom, and mastery of dharani for eloquence, and mastery of eloquence; the tenth is great clairvoyance, and entering into subtle secrets; the eleventh is extremely subtle attachment to all knowable objects, and extremely complete ignorance of obstructions, and two kinds of ignorance completely ignorant, and so on. Second, concerning afflictive obscurations, there are four: the wrong views to be abandoned on the path of seeing, and the abandonment on the path of meditation is divided from the perspective of the bhumis. Analyze the distinctions of such divisions, and how to abandon them. First, there are two: the general number and the way of entering into wrong views. First, the general number has three explanations, in the Compendium it says: Although the basis of the higher realms has the seed of anger, it does not have the cause for manifestation, or the seed is the establisher, belonging only to the desire realm, and its ripening is also only experienced in the desire realm, considering that there is no anger in the higher realms, so it is the desire realm and the higher realms.

The ten and nine subtle (afflictions) that exist in the ground are said to be concomitant without difference to all four truths, totaling one hundred and twelve. In summarizing the ascertainment, the first two views are abandoned for the remaining three truths other than the truth of suffering in all three realms, so there are forty-four. According to the Treasury (Abhidharmakosha), in the desire realm, there are ten for the truth of suffering, and for the truths of origin and cessation, there are the first two views, and the final superior holding, totaling three, and for the path, only the first two views are abandoned, so for the four truths in order, there are ten, seven, seven, and eight, and in the higher realms, because anger is also abandoned, there are nine, six, six, and seven entering perversely, totaling eighty-eight. Secondly, the way of entering perversely is: If the abandonments by seeing are explained from the perspective of concomitant entry, then who is the enterer? What is the place of entry? What is the manner of entry? The enterer is: the near afflictions that arise in conjunction with the root afflictions and, other than that, the mental factors, main mind, etc., are limitless, but if the main ones are collected by type, there are ten, namely, desire, anger, pride, ignorance, doubt, view of the perishable aggregate, extreme view, holding views as supreme, holding ethics and vows as supreme, and wrong view, in short, the five non-views and the five views. The place of entry, although there are limitless clear distinctions, is the four truths. The way of entering is, as long as the common characteristic of the four truths, emptiness of self of person, is not directly realized, these ten will actually generate contaminated actions, and the previous similar type will generate the later ones, and the later ones will project and accomplish the ripening result, therefore, it is the cause of increasing suffering. It is the cause of the truths of suffering and origin, and because they are fixated upon, they will also increase, so they are also the cause and basis of these ten, and when the four truths are realized as empty of self of person, the action of mutual increase will cease, therefore these ten are entering perversely into the truths of suffering and origin, because they are abandoned by seeing their nature. Similarly, if the selflessness of the four truths is not seen, then due to being manifestly delighted in samsara, one will regard liberation, its cause and effect, as a precipice and become frightened, but when it is seen, that fear will also cease through the means of abandoning the ten afflictions, therefore, one will not be afraid of cessation.
