It contradicts what you said about being without difference. Although dharmata has no difference, if it is realized in this way through samadhi, then the samadhi of the Mahayana aryas will become a mistaken consciousness of dharmata, like the consciousness of seeing two moons. So, what is the object of samadhi? There are two views on this: one that samadhi is without appearance, and the other that it is with appearance. The first view is as stated in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "When things and non-things do not remain before the mind, then there is no other aspect, and it is utterly pacified without an object." This means that consciousness does not arise for that object, and the meditation of merely not seeing is said to be seeing. The second view is that the two, Ārya Vimuktisena and the teacher, have refuted the views that only dharmata is the object of samadhi, that samadhi has the aspect of grasper and grasped, and that it is separate from the object, and have explained that dependent origination like illusion, which is without true entity, is the object of non-affirming negation samadhi. Moreover, that is not the otherness of object and subject, but the appearance experienced in the manner of self-awareness of samadhi is emptiness by nature. They also do not accept that appearance is established in dependence on dharmata. Of these two, for the time being, this latter view should be accepted. To refute those who think that the second view is unreasonable, there are two parts: presenting the apparent argument, and refuting it with the correct answer. First, the argument is: the realization of the Mahayana aryas will become unreasonable, because dharmata is not realized. Furthermore, the abandonment of abandoning all obscurations of knowledge will become unreasonable, because the self-nature of all dharmas, free from elaboration, is not realized. Furthermore, the realization of the three vehicles of the inherent nature lineage should not be the basis for progressing from higher to higher, because dharmata has no basis and no dependent. The appearance of the object of samadhi, like illusion, will become existent in the ultimate sense, because it exists in the object of samadhi of the Mahayana aryas. The pervasion exists, because that is the ultimate wisdom of ultimate analysis. The statements that even the bodhisattvas of the ten bhūmis only realize a part of dharmata, and that only the Buddhas realize it completely, will also become unreasonable, because they have completely realized suchness from the first bhūmi. Second, the answer is: in the first two fallacies, the meaning of not realizing dharmata is:

If it is considered that the meaning of the non-establishment of dualistic appearance by the equality of dharmata (chos nyid mnyam gzhag) is such, then the pervasion is not definite. This is because it is held that the meaning of realizing dharmata is not seeing any phenomena of elaboration. However, if it is considered that equality (mnyam gzhag) is not realized in the manner of completely pacifying all elaborations, then the reason is not established. In short, the meaning of realizing essence (gshis lugs), dharmata (chos nyid), nature (rang bzhin), and freedom from elaboration (spros bral) is taken as wisdom (ye shes), which means that all are pacified, so that no consciousness arises that focuses on them. In reality, some do not make the object of focus and the act of focusing opposite to each other. For example, when consciousness arises in the form of how the object is, it is established as realization even though the object is not present at that time. Similarly, equality (mnyam gzhag) is similar to dharmata (chos nyid) not abiding in any extreme, and it does not grasp any extreme, so it is termed that this and that are realized. As it says in the *Entering the Middle Way*: "When birth and cessation are both pacified, then this also has no existence. Thus, when they are all abandoned, it is then said to realize the true nature. Just as the mind turns to whatever aspect, that very nature is its object. Likewise, this consciousness also turns, and therefore it is said to be knowing." There is also no fault of the inherent nature of the lineage being unreasonable, because dharmata (chos nyid) is the nature (rang bzhin) free from elaboration (spros bral), and it is known in a way that does not see elaboration. Therefore, it is only thought that the qualities of the three vehicles increase, and it is said to be the support and the supported, but it is not the characteristic of the support and the supported. Although appearance is the object of the equality (mnyam gzhag) of the noble ones of the Great Vehicle, it does not change to being unestablished in the ultimate sense, because it does not measure it as true, but measures it as unreal. If it were not so, then the knowledge of the Thubpa (Buddha) would have to be without an object, because it is the ultimate reasoning that examines the ultimate meaning. If it were its object, then it would be established in the ultimate sense. The difference between realizing a part of dharmata (chos nyid) and realizing it completely, as stated in the sutras, is because some of the inferior lineages are led into the vehicle, so it is said that this dharma is difficult to realize, and the benefits of realization, etc., are not according to the literal meaning. Thus, dharmata (chos nyid) is established as the object of wisdom (ye shes) from the perspective of conventional truth, and it is established as realization, but it is not so in the ultimate sense, as stated in many sutras and treatises. Fifth, the objects to be abandoned are dissimilar.
