That itself is what was done. The result is: the meaning of all sentient beings' desires, higher realms and definite goodness. The reason is: to show others the path without error, one must first realize the path as it is, as it says in the Pramāṇavārttika: "The means arise from that cause, it is difficult to explain because it is hidden." The third verse also has four as before: The basis is: the Sugatas, Bhagavats, etc., who have completely restrained all misdeeds of body, speech, and mind. The means is: that which is fully endowed with omniscient knowledge that has completely understood all aspects of non-arising. The result is: this wheel of Dharma was spoken, possessing all aspects of the meaning to be expressed, and the various embellishments of the words that express it. Here, there are four examinations of the limits of the Dharma wheel: the nature of the Dharma wheel, the definition, the divisions, and the measure. First, regarding the nature: the Vaibhāṣikas believe that only the path of seeing is the Dharma wheel, because when the Dharma was taught to the five monks in Varanasi, when the path of seeing arose, the yakshas proclaimed that the wheel of Dharma had been turned, and because there are those who have the path of seeing that is similar to the precious wheel, because the path of seeing quickly realizes the truth, so it has the nature of going quickly, abandoning the objects of the previous truth, entering the next truth, and the uninterrupted path cuts off the attainment of what is to be abandoned, so it has the nature of turning from not being victorious to being victorious, the path of liberation draws the attainment of separation from what is to be abandoned, so it has the nature of abiding in victory, focusing on the truth of the upper realm, so it has the nature of rising, focusing on the truth of the lower realm, so it has the nature of descending. That is what they believe. The Venerable Melodious Voice said: the eightfold noble path is the Dharma wheel, the three of speech, action, and livelihood are ethics, because they are the basis of samādhi and prajñā, so they are similar to the center of the basis. View, realization, effort, etc., are the training of prajñā, because they cut off the opposing side, so they have the same nature as the spokes of cutting off. Samādhi is, because it holds the object in a one-pointed manner of seeing, etc., so it has the same nature as the collecting rim. Therefore, it is similar to the wheel. That is what they believe. These are confused about the aspect of establishing the thesis, so those tenets should be abandoned, and here, one should use scriptural authority and rea

All comprehensible dharmas should be regarded as the Dharma Wheel. All scriptures are encompassed by the Three Wheels of Dharma, and the goal of all paths is also the meaning of the Dharma Wheel. Second, the definition of the Dharma Wheel is: having the nature of dharmas such as right view, and revolving in a harmonious manner from one lineage to another, hence it is called the Dharma Wheel. Third, the classification: there are two types, the Wheel of Realization and the Wheel of Teaching. The Wheel of Realization has five paths. If classifying the Wheel of Teaching, as it is said: Sutra, Songs, Prophecies, Verses, Self-utterances, Parables, Thus-come, Stories, Extensive Teachings, Jataka, and Marvelous Dharmas, thus the twelve branches are proclaimed. Thus, there are twelve branches in total. If summarized, it becomes the Three Baskets: the first five, Sutra, etc., are the Sutra Basket of the Hearers; the main one is Stories, Discipline, Jataka, and the other four are the Discipline Basket. There is a saying that Jataka belongs to the Discipline Basket of the Mahayana. Here, the twelve branches of the scriptures and the classification of the ten dharmas, as well as the way of summarizing them into the two, Teaching and Realization, are explained in the difficult commentary. The two, Marvelous Dharmas and Extensive Teachings, are the Sutra Basket of the Bodhisattvas. The Dharma Basket that determines the explanation is the Abhidharma Basket of both the Mahayana and Hinayana. This is the view of the Compendium. If summarizing the basis, Extensive Teachings are the Dharma Basket of the Mahayana, and the others are the Dharma Basket corresponding to the Hearers, both of which are explained as the Sutra Basket, which is different from the former. If the Stories, main, Discipline, and the other four are summarized into one, then the scriptures have nine branches, as stated in the commentary of the Lankavatara Sutra. Fourth, the quantity: some say that the treatise called "Dharma Aggregates" written by Shariputra has six thousand verses, so the quantity of the Dharma Wheel should also be like that. Others believe that starting from aggregates, elements, sources, truths, dependent origination, etc., each should contain a complete story, and each should possess the antidote to what is to be abandoned. However, here, there are two views, the common vehicle and the uncommon vehicle. According to the former, each Dharma Aggregate should have one thousand verses, which is the commentary of the Compendium.
