The person who attains it is, the formless self-ground of meditative absorption, the lower ground has a basis, there is no lower or higher. This is generally said, and there is nothing for the noble ones of the peak of existence. Manifestly realizing and exhausting the defilements. This is how it is specifically stated. Secondly, there are four explanations of the immeasurable: cause, essence, division, and explanation of terms. First, the cause is: In the Ornament it says: Happiness and suffering, from that cause, is the compassion of the Bodhisattva; from cause, spiritual friend, and nature, is the compassion of the Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. In that, the first half shows the two feelings of happiness and suffering, and the feeling of equanimity that leads them, focusing on the three feelings, and the compassion that desires to be separated from the three sufferings, so it shows the object of compassion. The latter half shows the remaining three conditions: the cause is the causal condition, the stainless seed on the basis of all. The spiritual friend is the lordly condition, the one who teaches the immeasurable. Nature is the immediately preceding condition, the previous wisdom. These remaining three conditions can be combined with all four, and the first condition will be explained at the time of the essence. Secondly, the essence has two aspects: general and specific. The first is: In the Ornament it says: The steadfast Brahma, abandoning incompatibilities, possessing non-discriminating wisdom, engaging in three kinds of objects, completely maturing sentient beings. Thus it shows that it has four characteristics: the characteristic of abandoning incompatible aspects is in order, harmful thoughts and, harming and, displeasure and, harmful thoughts and desire are all abandoned. The characteristic of the antidote is obtaining the antidote to them. The characteristic of the object is focusing on sentient beings, phenomena, and the absence of an object. The characteristic of the activity is maturing sentient beings. Secondly, the essence of the distinction is: In the Compendium, what is love? Relying on meditative absorption, the intention to abide in the thought that may all sentient beings meet with happiness, the concentration and wisdom that are truly attained, and the mind and mental factors that are in accordance with them. Similarly, for the others, the beginning and end are the same, may they be separated from suffering, may they not be separated from happiness, the intention to abide in the thought of benefit, it is said that it is truly attained. They also abide

and the object, aspect, essence, and companions. The first is any of the actual bases of the four dhyanas. The second is all sentient beings, with a slight distinction: sentient beings who do not have happiness, who have suffering, who have happiness, and who have attachment and aversion, which are the causes of distinguishing between near and far. The third is wanting to meet, and so on. The fourth is samadhi and wisdom. The fifth is mind and mental factors. The third is the division: the three, such as love, that focus on sentient beings, phenomena, and the absence of focus. The first of these is: the object of the arising of love, etc., focuses on one sentient being or the essence of the substance of a person, and compassion, etc., arise. The second is: although the substance of the sentient being who is suffering is not established, love, etc., arise by focusing on the sufferer who is only the essence of the dharma. The third is: love, etc., that do not even focus on just the dharma, but focus on suchness, which is free from grasping and being grasped. Alternatively, the objects of these are wanting to meet with happiness, being afflicted by suffering, wanting not to be separated from happiness, and afflicted sentient beings are the objects of the first, and the scriptures that teach the immeasurable, and suchness are the objects of the last two. As it says in the Ornament: The steadfast desire those for happiness, Afflicted by suffering, and happiness, Afflicted ones and those teachings, They enter into the suchness of that. Thus it is said. The first is ordinary beings, the second is common to hearers and self-realizers, and the third is for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Inexhaustible Intelligence, it is said that the love, etc., of the three Bodhisattvas who initially generate the mind, enter into practice, are common to non-Buddhists, and have obtained forbearance of the unborn dharma are taught in order. The fourth is the etymology, in the Destroyer of Harm it says: Because it focuses on immeasurable sentient beings, and because it becomes the cause of immeasurable accumulations, and because it becomes the cause of obtaining immeasurable dharmas, and because it becomes the object of immeasurable wisdom, it is called immeasurable. What is said is the etymology of each, and by meditating on these, one is born as a Brahma god, so it is also called the Brahma abode. Third, accumulating the accumulations is divided into two, a general presentation
