In particular, abiding in the fruit of entering the stream. Regarding the difference of births, desiring birth and taking seven existences. Regarding the manner of taking birth, if one attains the fruit of entering the stream in a human body, then one takes six times in human form and seven times in divine form, ultimately being born in human form and passing away. If one attains it in a divine body, then one takes six times in divine form and seven times in human form, ultimately passing away in a divine body. Thus, in the fourteen existences of gods and humans, taking fourteen existences, that is, taking twenty-eight existences, but because the groups of seven are the same, it is called the seventh time. Like a monk who is skilled in the seven abodes and a tree with seven leaves. Second, even when born from lineage to lineage, there are three differences: abandoning three or four of the desire realm afflictions, but not abandoning the fifth; and the realization of obtaining the antidote, the undefiled faculty; taking two or three births in the same lineage of gods and humans in the desire realm. Regarding not abandoning the fifth, if the fifth is abandoned, there is no need to transcend the realm, so the sixth will also be abandoned, and if so, one will become a once-returner. Therefore, those who abandon the abandoned by cultivation, both those abandoned before the sixteenth and those abandoned after exist. Second, the once-returner has two aspects: entering and abiding. Entering is when the fruit-abiding one of stream-entry strives to attain the once-returner, without abandoning any of the five abandonments by cultivation, or until striving to abandon the sixth. Second, the abiding of the once-returner is when the one who has entered abandons the sixth affliction of the desire realm, that is, the once-returner. That is, when abiding on the path of liberation from abandoning the sixth, it is merely the fruit-abiding, and if striving to abandon up to the ninth, there is a difference. The difference of the latter, one lifetime with one interruption, is that one abandons the seventh and eighth afflictions, obtains the antidote, the undefiled faculty, and has one remaining lifetime. Third, the non-returner has two aspects: entering and abiding. First, entering is when the once-returner strives to abandon between the seventh and ninth. Second, abiding is when the one who has entered abandons the ninth abandonment by cultivation, that is, the non-returner, which has two aspects: going to the upper realm and passing away in that body. The first has three: going to the form realm, going to the formless realm, and contemplating those bodies. First, going to the form realm has three: the intermediate state, dying after birth, and transferring upwards. The first is, except for the Great Brahma

Having been born in any of the sixteen intermediate states of the Form Realm, one does not return in order to pass away in that support, and this has three aspects: immediately after the intermediate state is formed; when the appearance of seeking rebirth has not yet arisen after formation; and when one thinks of going to rebirth, one passes away without remainder. The second is passing away after being born: having connected one's own continuum in the rebirth of the sixteen abodes of the Form Realm, one does not return in order to pass away with remainder in that support, and this has three aspects: passing away immediately after being born; passing away without manifest activity; and passing away uniquely with any manifest activity, whether present or absent. The difference between the latter two is the difference between the path arising naturally without effort and not arising. The first is that the path arises very naturally and the subtle increase is very small, so it is different from the second, so the teachers think, and the Compendium also says so. The birth-passing away of those born in the five Pure Abodes is that the alternating meditations must be practiced. The third is moving upwards: one does not return in order to pass away after passing through twice in the birth-state of the Form Realm, and this has two aspects: from the point of view of the cause, practicing alternating meditations, and from the point of view of the result, going to Akanishta and the Peak of Existence. The first is that one does not return in order to pass away in the support of Akanishta after passing through two births in the birth-state of the Form Realm, and this has three aspects: leaping, half-leaping, and dying and transferring in all places. Leaping refers to experiencing the taste of the first dhyana at the time of accomplishment after practicing the five alternating meditations, then falling away from the latter three dhyanas, being born in the Brahma Host, and due to the power of previous habituation, practicing the fourth dhyana, abandoning the intermediate dhyanas, and being born in Akanishta and passing away. Half-leaping refers to being born in the Brahma Host as before, abandoning the intermediate dhyanas, being born in the Pure Abodes, then abandoning some others, and passing away in Akanishta. Dying and transferring in all places refers to being born in the Brahma Host as before, passing through all other places except the Great Brahma, and passing away in Akanishta. Because the sole lord is exhausted, he has accumulated incomparable karma, and because it is the place of wrong views, the noble ones are not born in the Great Brahma, so it is said in the Treasury Commentary. According to the Mahayana view, that reason is not certain, because the birth of the ripening result of the great Bodhi that has not yet been attained will be explained.
