So, why is it only established here and not in the other eight colored places? Because in the two, form and touch, there are both self and other, and it possesses all the realms of sentient beings with form, and the five faculties are not present in other continuums, and the two, smell and taste, are also not present in the form realm, so they are not established. This is the view of the "Ground of Reality." Sound is not established because it is impermanent. In the formless realm, because it can pervade all of space, and consciousness is also with cessation as its object, cessation is established, and the "Ground of Reality" says that the eight forms can make cessation for the form realm and above. In this way, the latter two formless realms are not established, because the third can cut off the object, and the fourth has the mind gathered inward, so it is not clear. For form to make cessation, four are established as the form that can make cessation, because without earth and so on, it cannot pervade the objects of blue and so on that are about to arise. This is what is said in the "Compendium." The ninth is the meaning of the word: because it pervades and spreads without interruption, it is the birthplace of cessation. Just like that. Explaining cessation in this way is the view of Nyima Gyaltsen. The sixth section is: Overpowering the birthplace is the basis of classification. The number of classifications is eight, that is, overpowering with shape and color, each with four kinds, just like that. Among them, the first four are that the inner yogi himself, by visualizing as having form, looks at the small, good and bad colored forms outside, and overpowers them to know, overpowers them to see, and visualizes like this, which is called the first. Adding the great to the small and combining it as it is, this is the second. The inner yogi himself, by visualizing as formless, combines like this, making each of the large and small, these are the latter two. Among them, the small is the form of sentient beings, and its good and bad refers to gods and humans; the great is houses, immeasurable palaces, mountains, etc., and whether its color is beautiful or not refers to whether it is pleasing or not. Overpowering means controlling. Knowing means calm abiding, and seeing means insight; visualizing like this is that whether overpowering or not, there is no obvious pride.

Those two sets (referring to the first four liberations) arise from the power of sequentially practicing the first two liberations. The latter four are, as before, when observing the size of forms, without thinking of whether they are with or without form, only those who think of them as formless can overwhelmingly know and see the blue and white. Like this, adding "having become such a perception" at the end of each, there are four. This is also said in the sutra: "Internally perceiving formlessness, externally observing the blue form, the color is blue, appearing as blue, emitting blue light, etc. For example, like the appearance of cornflower blossoms or exquisite blue cloths produced in Varanasi (ancient Indian place name), similarly, internally perceiving formlessness, externally observing the appearance of blue forms, etc., observing those and overwhelmingly knowing, etc., as previously said. Similarly, yellow is associated with orpiment, red with Bandhujiva flowers, and white with the star Pleiades." Among them, from internal form to "observing" is a brief explanation, and the rest is an extensive explanation. That is also similarly a metaphor and the meaning thereafter. Among them, blue is the brief explanation. The color blue is innate. Appearing as blue is combined. Emitting blue light refers to the bright light emitted from both of them, which is common. Flowers are an example of the innate, and cloth is an example of the combined. Therefore, the first and last two of the four phrases are for both flowers and cloth. The middle two are for each of those two. The other three should also be understood similarly, which comes from the boundary of the impure liberation. To subdue harm on a small scale, recognizing form and formlessness, observing small and large, these are two; observing blue, etc., these are four, totaling six. Overwhelmingly suppressing space and consciousness, these are two, totaling eight, which corresponds to the eighty thousand (dharmas). Seventh, the samadhi without afflictions is the samadhi and wisdom that, relying on meditation, eradicates the continuum of the enemy of afflictions belonging to the continuum of others. Eighth, the knowledge from aspiration is, being free from all aspects of signs, destroying the attachment of manifest clinging, with the accomplishment of the aspiration to dispel the doubts of those to be tamed, with samsara and
