In summary, these two are what should be contemplated. Second, determining the nature of the two truths, conventional and ultimate, has two parts: a general presentation of the two truths and a separate explanation. First, the general presentation: there is no distinction between the two truths made by their own nature. Otherwise, if the essence were established as one, then the ultimate truth would also be realized, becoming merely a fabricated convention; like the ultimate truth, the conventional would also become an uncorrected nature, unexamined by the mind; and all sentient beings would effortlessly be liberated by realizing the ultimate truth. As it says in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: "If something were made by its own nature, how could it be made? Nature is unmade and does not depend on others." And in the Noble Samadhi Revealing Suchness: "Those who speak of the conventional as ultimate, know that they possess a mistaken mind." And in the King of Samadhi Sutra: "The eye, ear, and nose are not valid cognizers; neither are the tongue, body, and mind. If these faculties were valid, what use would the noble path be to anyone?" If the essence were established as different, then, like light and darkness, the nature of the conventional would not be ultimate. Like being frightened by mistaking a rope for a snake, thinking that seeing a place without an elephant is the antidote to liberation, if realizing the ultimate truth does not eliminate the defilement of clinging to the conventional, there would be endless faults. In the Mother Sutra it also says: "The conventional of the world is other, and the ultimate truth is also other; this does not exist." And in the mixed texts of Omniscience, it is repeatedly stated that if these dharmas are not of the same essence as suchness, then suchness does not exist. If they are neither one nor different, then the two truths would not exist, if asked. The essence of the two truths is neither one nor different, which is what we accept. However, we consider it merely as difference that is the negation of oneness, like things and non-things. Not making a distinction between the two truths is not universal, because the aspect of freedom from elaboration is labeled as the ultimate truth, just as mixing the appearance of conceptual thought and the object to be conceptualized, and naming the self-characteristic. The sutra also says: "In the dharma without letters, who hears and who teaches? Upon the unchanging, adding imputations,

Thus thinking. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the scriptures say that the two truths, ultimate and conventional, are neither one nor different, and so on. Therefore, there is no scriptural harm. Both the identity and difference of the essence are harmed by reason. Therefore, believing that both the ultimate and conventional truths are established by essence, only you will commit the fault that you yourself have established. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that the essence is one but the aspects are different. The Explanation of Mind says: Like what is made and impermanent, if one does not exist, the other will not arise. Emptiness is also conventional truth, and conventional truth is also said to be emptiness. This is not its source either, because it takes impermanence as an example of one truth not existing and the other not existing. Therefore, this is also a reason that is not different from itself. In this way, those who want to understand me well should, as it is said in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra (解深密经): The nature of the aggregate realm and the ultimate nature is the nature that is free from one and different. Whoever clings to one and different, those people have entered into an improper view. Thus, the views of one and different, which are personally condemned by the Blessed One, should be abandoned. So, how do you distinguish between the two truths? Arising and ceasing, purity and impurity, negation and affirmation, etc., many different characteristics appear in the mind, and in the face of the mind of expression, whatever part is free from the harm of reason is the conventional truth. If you analyze the conventional truth itself, it is said that it is separated from all the nets of elaboration such as appearing and not appearing, arising and not arising, self and non-self, etc. This is the ultimate truth. In addition, it is only necessary to admit it in the name of necessity in order to guide others to the right path. The so-called non-elaboration is only to establish a name in front of others, and it is not to think that a non-elaborate dharma is established. Thus, the Two Truths says: This very thing that appears, is the conventional truth, and the other is the ultimate truth. The Bodhicaryāvatāra (入菩萨行论) says: The ultimate is not the object of the mind, the mind is considered to be the conventional. As it is said, if the ultimate is not like dependent arising and illusion, and there is nothing else besides these, then what is it? Therefore, it is very true to think that this is an unbearable annihilationist view because there is no focus of mind on this. Because from beginningless time, the habit of clinging to the extremes of acceptance and rejection and negation and affirmation has become firm, so driven by habit, the mind will cling to one side.
