In the Compendium of Vehicles, it is not contradictory to say that it acts as the sole cause, because that is in terms of certainty, and it is in terms of the existence of the Compendium. It is also not contradictory to say that the other three besides the earth act as causes and conditions, because that is in terms of the ultimate cause and condition, which is the Alaya consciousness itself, and it is in terms of the Compendium, which establishes the cause and condition of the conventional truth. Fourth, in terms of function, there are two types of functions: the same function and the different function. First, the same function is that the former produces the latter. Second, the different function is, in the Differentiation of the Middle and the Extremes, it says: "For the sake of obscuration and for the sake of sowing, for the sake of guidance and for the sake of universal holding, for the sake of completion and for the sake of cutting off the three, for the sake of near use and for the sake of holding together, for the sake of combination and for the sake of manifestation, due to the limb, it is the wandering affliction." Here it says that the last two are summarized as the cause of birth, combined into one, and the rest are individually corresponding. Fifth, in how many lives is it completed? Generally speaking, among the four births, the spontaneously born is that when the faculties and limbs are produced, they are also accomplished simultaneously, and when dying, the faculties are also destroyed simultaneously. The other three are both gradual. Therefore, the gradual accomplishment of name and form, etc., should be excluded from the spontaneously born. In the desire realm and the form realm, the twelve limbs are fully present. In the form realm, there is the aging of the aging aggregate, and there are others as well. In the formless realm, there is half of the four limbs, and the five sense bases of the five limbs are absent, and others may be present. Among them, at the fastest, the twelve limbs can be completed in two lives. For example, a person in the desire realm, with the power of ignorance, accumulates the karma of being reborn as a desire realm deity on the consciousness, and nourishes it with craving and grasping until death, making it capable from existence, then six limbs are accomplished in this life, and seven limbs including the consciousness at the time of fruition are accomplished in the next life. The life of the intermediate state is not counted separately. A son will not exceed three lives either, because the three limbs that can be reborn are complete in one life, and the three limbs that can be accomplished are also complete in one life, and there will be no interruption between birth and old age, but there may be many lives between the limbs that can be reborn and the limbs that can be accomplished. Therefore, if you ask whether there is a definite conclusion on longevity? Even if there are many lives between the limbs that can be reborn and the limbs that can be accomplished, other dependent originations

Therefore, there is no fault at that time. Sixth, regarding the classification of the same ground: Are these cause-and-effect limbs on the same ground or different grounds? Both are uncertain. How is this understood? There are three grounds, namely the ground of death, the ground of birth, and the ground other than these two. Among them, the basis of the lower ground has accumulated the karma of being born in that ground and the upper ground, but the basis of the upper ground has not accumulated the karma of being born in the lower ground. On the basis of one's own ground, there is also the accumulation of karma to be born in that ground. The first limb and the consciousness of the causal time belong to the ground where the karma is accumulated. Ignorance is the cycle of afflictive mind and alaya consciousness, so the consciousness of these two bases also belongs to that ground. If a child who is detached from desire in the desire realm accumulates the karma of being born in the upper realm, then because there is no affliction of the desire realm, does his ignorance not belong to the desire realm? In response, the Abhidharma masters believe that because there are afflictions of the upper realm in his continuum, it also belongs to the desire realm when he accumulates karma caused by it. Here, afflictive mind is acknowledged, but the path of a child cannot destroy it, and it belongs to the desire realm, so there is no fault. If the ignorance of another ground causes the karma of another ground, why does the basis of the upper ground not accumulate the karma of being born in the lower ground? Because that basis does not have all the afflictions of being born in the lower ground, and it has obtained a special basis that distinguishes different grounds, it does not respect the accumulation of inferior karma of the lower ground. Formation belongs to the place of birth, because the karma of other grounds cannot project the aggregates of other grounds. The seven consciousnesses of the time of result also belong only to the place of birth. Although desire and grasping are said in the Meaningful Explanation to belong to the place of birth, from the lower ground to the upper ground, the afflictions of the upper ground have the cause of manifestation, so it can be considered in this way. However, the basis of existence of the upper ground manifests the afflictions of the lower ground, which is inconsistent with the general rules of Dharma characteristics, and is not acceptable in reason, so it is unreasonable to be born from the upper ground to the lower ground. However, existence is born from the upper realm to both the good and bad destinies of the desire realm, and also belongs to the place of birth. When born into a bad destiny, it is only the latent seeds of non-virtue at that time. If seeing the truth has no projection, then the practitioner of the non-returner should not be born in the Pure Abodes, because birth there requires uncontaminated concentration.
