It should be known. The signs of controlling earth wind, water wind, fire wind, wind of wind, and space wind are: the body feels heavy, cold, warm, light, and empty as if the body has disappeared; and in visual perception, one sees conches, fireflies, mirages, iron hooks, spots in the clear sky, rainbows, sun and moon, stars, and the earth as gold, etc., as well as fire, water, the form of the Thus-Gone One (Tathāgata), the abodes of the six realms, and any phenomena in the three thousand worlds. These are all signs of controlling the wind and mind, and should be understood through experience. In auditory perception, hearing sounds like bees, beautiful Sanskrit (saṃskṛta) poetry, the pleasant or unpleasant sounds of the essence mantra (snying-po) of the deity (yi-dam), should all be understood through auditory experience. Without accepting, rejecting, negating, or affirming the present experience, but simply experiencing it, the Samadhi (ting-nge-'dzin) of Insight (lhag-thong) will arise. The Teaching on Insight Secondly, the practice of Insight is divided into two: practicing the selflessness of the person (gang-zag-gi bdag-med) and practicing the selflessness of phenomena (chos-kyi bdag-med). Practicing the Selflessness of the Person The first is: 'The three of body, speech, and mind are aggregates, none of which are established as self, and apart from that there is no self. One should understand the meaning of this selflessness.' Thus it is said. This is further divided into two: practicing the selflessness of the three of body, speech, and mind, and practicing the selflessness of the five aggregates. Practicing the Selflessness of the Three of Body, Speech, and Mind The first is divided into three: practicing the selflessness of body, speech, and mind. The first is that the posture of the body and the way of looking, etc., are all the same as before, remaining unchanged. One should know that one's own body is not established through reasoning and then practice. That is, the head and limbs, etc., the six places, the chest and internal organs, etc., as well as the flesh, blood, bones, mucus, fat, marrow, the doors of the senses, the breath, the veins, the warmth, the impurities, etc., none of these individually is established as the body, and apart from these, the body is never established. Having examined it well in this way, one does not find the body anywhere, and in that state, one completely cuts off the proliferation of grasping and clinging thoughts and remains in equanimity. If the mind wanders, then as before, one establishes that the body is not established anywhere, and again, in the state of not finding the body, one remains in equanimity. By practicing repeatedly in this way every day, one becomes certain that the body is not established. Furthermore, separating the limbs of the body, one should know that they are not established. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meditate on the non-existence of the head. The head consists of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, mouth, teeth, lips, hair, brain, flesh, blood, bones, serum, saliva, mucus, spittle, upper jaw, lower jaw, and hair follicles. Analyzing each one, none of them is the head. Having examined it carefully in this way, and not finding the head anywhere, remain in that state of equanimity, as before. Similarly, understand this for other limbs as well. Likewise, the nose is not established, and none of its ten directions are established as the nose. Dividing its directions into individual atomic particles, these are not established anywhere either. Similarly, understand this for all things. The essence of speech is also not established. Secondly, past speech has ceased, future speech has not yet arisen, and present speech cannot be determined to exist. Knowing that no speech can be found anywhere, remain in that state of equanimity. Thirdly, the mind does not reside anywhere from the crown of one's head to the soles of one's feet, nor does it exist elsewhere, nor does it exist between the two. Therefore, not finding the mind anywhere, remain in that state of equanimity. Thus, since the body, speech, and mind are not established anywhere, these three are not the self. Different from that, or between the two, the self is also not established, so not finding the self, remain in that state of equanimity. Meditate on the five skandhas as being without self. Secondly, meditating on the five skandhas as being without self: First, the form skandha, whether it is shape, color, touch, or smell, analyzing each one individually, it is not form. Similarly, analyzing it individually from the perspective of directions, locations, and atomic particles, the essence of form is not established, so remain in that state of equanimity. Secondly, the feeling skandha, that which experiences pleasure, pain, and neutral feelings is feeling. Examining where it resides within the body, externally, or between the two, the essence of feeling is not established, so remain in that state of equanimity. Thirdly, meditating on the non-existence of the perception skandha, the perception that perceives individual objects should also be kept in equanimity like the feeling skandha. Fourthly, meditating on the non-existence of the mental formation skandha, the mental formations that have the nature of various attachments, hatreds, negations, and affirmations, should also be understood like the feeling skandha and kept in equanimity. Fifthly, meditating on the non-existence of the consciousness skandha, the aggregates of consciousness that individually grasp objects such as forms, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
