Cessation leads to birth and death; the cessation of cessation leads to the cessation of aging and death. Therefore, all sources of suffering arise from clinging to self, and all sources of benefit and happiness come from the wisdom of realizing no-self. This should be understood. These explain the meaning of 'meditating on the arising and ceasing of dependent origination'. The Actual Distinct Practice Second, the actual distinct practice is divided into two parts: first, teaching what should be learned, and then teaching the order of practice. Teaching What Should Be Learned First First, the dwelling should avoid being too dark and damp or too spacious and noisy. It is best to have a room that is warm in winter and cool in summer, with shelter. Food and drink should also be moderate. Avoid all obstacles to virtuous practice, such as bad friends, and prepare all favorable conditions, such as food and clothing. Abide in practice, not entangled in the affairs of sentient beings, doing nothing else, but focusing solely on virtuous practice. Teaching the Order of Practice The second part is divided into two parts: teaching shamatha and vipassanā. Teaching Shamatha First, 'The nature of body, speech, and mind, the profound instructions, I, for the fortunate ones who practice bodhi, abide in samadhi.' This is divided into two parts: teaching the nature of shamatha, and then recognizing the experiences of practice. The first part is divided into three points: relying on the nature of body, the nature of speech, and the nature of mind to practice samadhi. First, before all practices, there are three dharmas: visualizing one's body as the deity, visualizing the guru in any of the three places (forehead, throat, heart), cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta, vowing to place all sentient beings, as infinite as space, in the state of perfect and complete enlightenment. For this purpose, I will practice such profound instructions. Cultivate aspirational bodhicitta. The nature of body is divided into three types: relying on the nature of the five Buddha families, the nature of the three Buddha families, and the nature of one Buddha family to practice. First, visualize oneself as white Manjushri, on his crown visualize the nature of the guru, white Vairochana, in his heart visualize a white OM (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) on a moon disc, in the space in front of one's eyebrows, visualize a blue Akshobhya on a moon disc, about a finger or a span high. All three have one face and two arms. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Visualize yourself, making the mudra of equipoise, holding a utpala flower between your fingers, blooming directly at the ear, with a vajra and bell on top. Sitting in the vajra posture, adorned with silk and precious jewels, peaceful, smiling, with a radiant and glorious complexion, contemplate it as an image in a mirror, appearing but without inherent existence. Directly in front of your nose, visualize a white dot, about the size of a bean, or slightly larger. With both legs in the vajra posture and both hands in equipoise, straighten the spine, fix the eyes on the tip of the nose, slightly bend the neck, and touch the tip of the tongue to the palate. Extend the arms straight and attach them to the body. Without thinking about the good or bad of the past, future, or present, focus alternately on the space between the eyebrows or the heart of the deity in front, or the 'Om' (Tibetan: ༀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Chinese literal meaning: seed syllable) at the heart of the guru, or the dot directly in front of the nose, and remain in equipoise. Even if the legs ache, the eyes are dry, or tears flow, do not change the posture or rub, but leave it as it is, as it will be beneficial. It is difficult to achieve realization by focusing on one object for a long time, so do not remain focused on one object for longer than the time it takes to recite a hundred 'manis' (Tibetan: ༀ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम् मणि पद्मे हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Om Mani Padme Hum). But do not make it too short either, maintain equipoise for about the time it takes to recite seven or ten 'manis'. Then, the other steps are the same as before, without any difference. Replace the blue deity in front with yellow, red, green, and white deities, focusing on each one in turn, one at a time, for a total of five focuses. By relying on these objects of focus, the thoughts of grasping and being grasped cease, and one wishes to abide in the samadhi of non-thought. Therefore, do not generate thoughts about the object of focus, and if any other thoughts of grasping and being grasped arise, cut them off completely, and remain without distraction in the state of non-thought. Secondly, relying on the nature of the three family lords. The other steps are the same as before, visualizing yourself as white, red, and blue deities in sequence, visualizing one round at a time in front. For each round of visualization, do not make it shorter than five days, no matter how short it is. Thirdly, meditating on samadhi by relying on the nature of one family lord. Visualize Vajrasattva or Vajradhara in front, the other steps are the same as before. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
