Therefore, there is no 'self' apart from the aggregates. As Nāgārjuna said, 'If the aggregates were the self, it would be subject to arising and ceasing; if there were a self apart from the aggregates, it would lack the characteristics of the aggregates.' Thus, clinging to 'I' arises in dependence on the five aggregates. Second, showing the absence of self in phenomena: To show that phenomena are unborn, to dispel wrong views that are intolerant of the state of being unborn, and to liberate beings by compassion by destroying their conceptualizations, whatever affirmation or negation is made regarding the true meaning, it is shown that there is no acceptance of inherent existence in one's own system. First, showing that phenomena are unborn: The venerable Nāgārjuna said, like the Samkhyas, the Sautrantikas, and the Vaisheshikas, 'Not from self, not from other, not from both, nor without a cause. Whatever things, wherever, there is never any arising.' That is, it is not reasonable for phenomena included in samsara and nirvana to arise by their own nature. If 'I' arises from 'I', then the pot in front would arise from that pot. If 'I' arises from 'I', then all efforts to produce results would be meaningless. Why rely on factors that help or harm? Because it would arise endlessly from that. If it is thought that the pot arises in dependence on clay and conditions, then what arises from 'I'? If the clay and the pot are considered to be the same, then the clay can also perform the function of the pot, and then human efforts become meaningless. Or, the pot cannot function as a pot in the same way as the clay was before. If it arises from other, then fire and light would arise from darkness, because all non-producers are the same. This would not be a problem, because the two, cause and effect, are different, so it is said to arise from other. But this is also unreasonable, because 'other' in the world refers to things that exist simultaneously. The two, cause and effect, are not simultaneous, because when the cause exists, does the effect exist? If it exists, then the cause is not its cause, because cause and effect exist simultaneously. If it does not exist, then the cause is not a cause, because you... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because there is no result. This will not become a fault, because you have no cause. Furthermore, if you think that there is no fault even if there is a result without a cause, and there is a cause without a result, that is not correct. Because an action without an actor will result in existence. If you admit this, you will fall into the fault of infinity, so it is unreasonable. Also, if the cause and result are different, do these two exist or not? If they exist, then the cause and result are not two, because they exist simultaneously. If they do not exist, then it is not other, like the son and daughter of a barren woman. Also, if the result arises after the cause ceases, then the result arises from no cause, because you say that it arises from non-existence after the cause ceases. If the result arises without the cause ceasing, then your cause is permanent, because the cause remains without ceasing even after it has produced the result. Also, does the cause produce an existing result or a non-existing result? If it produces an existing result, then the cause has no need to newly produce the result, because your result already exists. If it produces a non-existing result, then the cause can also produce rabbit horns, etc., because the cause can produce a non-existing result. The Holy One also said: 'That which arises in dependence on something, that is itself for a while. Because it is not other than that, it is neither annihilation nor permanence.' It is also unreasonable to arise from two, because the above-mentioned faults will occur. It is very inferior to arise from no cause, so it is unreasonable, just as round beans, etc., grow on the ground, they will also grow in empty space, because the absence of cause is the same. Therefore, your example of proof becomes the object to be proven, because it is not established. Therefore, the object to be proven, that is, the belief that things arise from no cause, is only deceiving oneself, and all unwanted things will happen. Because it is the cause of samsara, it is very unreasonable to arise from no cause. Second, eliminating the wrong views that cannot tolerate the state of no-birth: This is the argument that cannot tolerate the state of no-birth, and the response to eliminate its wrong views. The first point is: If all dharmas are not established and are emptiness, then the arising and destruction of the world... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
