How other results become its cause and effect. The first part has three aspects: first is important, the middle is important, and the last is important. The second part, how other causes and effects become its cause and effect, has two aspects: from knowing the mother to the process of loving-kindness becoming the cause, and aspiration and Bodhicitta becoming the result. Second, the actual content of gradual practice has three aspects: cultivating the mind that seeks the benefit of others, cultivating the mind that seeks to attain Bodhi, and the result of cultivation—recognizing Bodhicitta. The first part has two aspects: accomplishing the basis for generating this mind, and actually generating this mind. The first part has two aspects: accomplishing equanimity towards sentient beings, and regarding all sentient beings as desirable objects. This has three aspects: practicing seeing others as your mother, practicing remembering kindness, and practicing repaying kindness. Second, actually generating this mind has three aspects: cultivating loving-kindness, cultivating compassion, and cultivating higher intention. Second, relying on Shantideva's treatises for practice has three aspects: contemplating the benefits of exchanging self and others and the faults of not exchanging, getting used to the idea of exchanging self and others and generating the ability, and the order of practicing exchanging self and others. Fourth, accumulating merit has three aspects: causing the unobtained to be obtained, protecting the obtained from not being lost, and the method of restoring after being lost. The first part has three aspects: the object to be taken, the basis of acceptance, and the ritual of how to accept. This has three aspects: the preliminary ritual, the main ritual, and the concluding ritual. The first part has three aspects: performing special refuge, accumulating merit, and cultivating aspiration. The first part has three aspects: arranging the place, displaying offerings, praying and taking refuge, and proclaiming the precepts after taking refuge. Second, guarding what has been obtained from not being lost has two aspects: learning the cause of not losing Bodhicitta in this life, and learning the cause of not being separated from Bodhicitta in future lives. The first part has four aspects: learning to remember the benefits in order to increase joy in Bodhicitta, learning to generate Bodhicitta six times in order to actually increase Bodhicitta, learning not to abandon sentient beings for whom Bodhicitta is generated, and learning to accumulate merit and wisdom. Learning to generate Bodhicitta six times in order to actually increase Bodhicitta has two aspects: learning not to abandon aspirational Bodhicitta and practical Bodhicitta. Second, learning the cause of not being separated from Bodhicitta in future lives has two aspects: when degenerating, abandoning the four black dharmas; not degenerating. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Learning to adopt the four white actions (par byed pa dkar po'i chos bzhi blang ba la bslab ba'o). Third, there are three ways to learn from generating Bodhicitta to practice: the reasons why one must learn after generating Bodhicitta; the explanation that one cannot achieve Buddhahood by learning only skillful means and wisdom; and the explanation of the order of learning. This is divided into two: the general principles of learning the Mahayana; and the principles of learning the Vajrayana in particular. The first is divided into three: cultivating the desire to learn the Bodhisattva's precepts; accepting the Bodhisattva vows after cultivation; and the principles of how to learn after accepting them. This is divided into three: what is the basis of learning; how the content of what is learned is gathered; and the order of how to learn. The second part is divided into two: determining the quantity of the actual content; and incidentally explaining the order. The first part has six: determining the quantity depending on higher rebirth; determining the quantity depending on accomplishing the two benefits (dön gnyis bsgrub); determining the quantity depending on completely accomplishing all altruistic activities; determining the quantity depending on gathering all Mahayana; determining the quantity depending on all skillful means; and determining the quantity depending on the three trainings (bSlab pa gSum). Incidentally, explaining the order is divided into three: the order of birth; the order of inferior and superior; and the order of coarse and subtle. Third, the order of how to learn is divided into two: the principles of learning general behavior; and the principles of learning the last two Paramitas in particular. The first is divided into two: learning the Paramitas that ripen one's own Buddha-dharma; and learning the four ways of gathering that ripen others' continuums. The first has six: the principles of learning generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. The first has four: the nature of generosity; the method of entering into the practice of generosity; the classification of generosity; and the summary of these contents. Third, the classification of generosity has three: how to treat all supports; the classification depending on each support; and the classification of the nature of generosity itself. The first is divided into two: making it possess six superiorities; and making it possess six perfections. The first has six: superior support; superior object; superior purpose; superior skillful means; superior dedication; and superior purity. Third, the classification of the nature of generosity itself has three: Dharma giving; fearlessness giving; and material giving. This is divided into two: actually giving material things; and giving only in thought. The first is divided into three: the way of giving material things; what to do if one cannot give; and showing the antidote to the obstacles of giving. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
