The so-called 'deception' is very unreasonable, because the formation of the bardo (intermediate state) while the death process has not stopped contradicts all qualified discourses. Moreover, the death process must be placed within this life and the bardo, because there is no qualified discourse that says that if one realizes enlightenment in the clear light of death in this life, one can become a Buddha, which is unreasonable. If it is said that obtaining the Dharmakaya (body of truth) of fruition is the real basis for obtaining something completely new that has never been obtained before, then it is contradictory for the corpse to become an ordinary corpse. Moreover, that basis does not have any name or example of whether or not it needs to be studied. Therefore, mixing death with the Dharmakaya is merely calling the similarity Dharmakaya, not the real Dharmakaya. Similarly, if one must obtain the body of the bardo after the clear light of death, even if one practices in the bardo, one cannot attain supreme accomplishment on that basis. For the first type of person, in order to substitute for others experiencing the bardo, he needs to accomplish the Sambhogakaya (body of enjoyment) through the practice of prana (vital energy), nadi (channels), and bindu (essential drops). The reasons for these accomplishments have already been explained elsewhere. For the latter two types of people, when approaching death, if wisdom is clear, one should unhesitatingly give all attachments to the field of merit, without any clinging. For the sins that violate vows, one should confess and restrain; for the breakage and decay of vows, one should restore them. Now, even if death comes, it doesn't matter, one should not have any attachment in one's heart. For the teachings on death and the bardo, one should remember how they become an inspiration for virtuous deeds, and joyfully welcome death like a son returning home. Then, visualize oneself as the deity, and in front of oneself, visualize the mandala of the guru and the yidam (personal deity), make offerings, and strongly pray to be able to merge death with the clear light, and to merge the bardo with the illusory body. For the second type of person, even before the signs of death appear, one should repeatedly practice the method of gathering the life force into the central channel that one is most familiar with, as well as generating the four emptinesses, and then rising as the deity body in a special way, as well as grasping the emptiness of sleep, and transforming the dream body into the illusory body, etc., and practice repeatedly as before. These need to be practiced a lot from the beginning. Then, examine the signs of death, etc., and understand the signs of entering the clear light as explained in the 'Twenty Aspects of Light'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sign of earth dissolving into water is that the external sign is the body cannot move, cannot support itself, and becomes loose. One feels as if the body is sinking into the earth, and the sound 'Ah-then' arises. The internal sign is that a mirage-like experience occurs. The external sign of water dissolving into fire is that the mouth and nose become dry, and the tongue shortens. The internal sign is that a smoke-like experience occurs. The external sign of fire dissolving into wind is that the warmth decreases, and the body's warmth gathers from the extremities. The internal sign is that a firefly-like experience occurs. The external sign of conceptual wind dissolving into mind is that the breath flows out long and one cannot draw it in. Even if one draws it in slightly, it is drawn in short and rough. The internal sign is that a butter lamp does not move in the wind. Then, the first appearance called 'emptiness' arises, like the moonlight rising in a cloudless sky. Then, after that appearance has subsided, the appearance of 'very emptiness' spreads, like the sunlight rising in a clear sky, and a red or reddish-yellow appearance arises. Then, after that appearance has also subsided, the appearance of 'great emptiness,' which is the nearly attained appearance, arises, like a clear sky covered by the darkness of twilight. A blackness arises, and memory also fades away. Then, when one awakens from the unconsciousness of blackness, all is emptiness, and the clear light arises, like the light of the sun and moon illuminating the sky, and like the clear sky at dawn, free from any blackness. This is the actual clear light. Here, for the three emptinesses and the clear light, there are two possibilities: that the external signs of smoke, fireflies, and a butter lamp, and a cloudless sky, and the internal signs of white, red, black, and the dawning of dawn, appear in sequence, or that they do not. The latter is better, because smoke and so on appear before the four emptinesses, as stated in many reliable texts. Moreover, all four emptinesses appear with the aspects of white and so on, but they are similar in that they appear like a cloudless sky. This time of the clear light of death is when the three appearances gradually dissolve, and the winds dissolve into the indestructible at the heart, and the white bindu (滴露) from the crown descends, and the red (明点) from the navel rises up, and they meet and unite at the heart. Even when other sentient beings who do not possess the six realms die, a faint clear light as described above appears, but they do not recognize it. These signs of the dissolution of the elements can occur from an early stage, so one should understand them well. When the first sign appears --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
