If these differences are not distinguished, then one cannot distinguish the easy and difficult aspects of grasping Bodhicitta (Byang sems, the mind of enlightenment), whether it needs to be forcibly reversed, and whether it will turn into a disease if it is not spread throughout the body after reversal. If these differences are not distinguished, then the system of these distinctions will not appear. The purpose of Tummo (gtum mo, inner fire) burning and melting Bodhicitta through the power of practicing the path is to generate Coemergent Wisdom (lhan cig skyes pa'i ye shes, innate wisdom). In order to generate Coemergent Wisdom, Bodhicitta melts and descends, generally reaching below the navel. In particular, if it does not reach the Jewel (nor bu, referring to the generative chakra) and does not move outward, but stays for a while, then Coemergent Wisdom with complete characteristics cannot be generated. When Coemergent Wisdom is established as Great Bliss (bde chen, great bliss) in the Completion Stage (rdzogs rim, completion phase), it needs to abide through the absorption of wind. If Bodhicitta melts through the absorption of wind into the central channel (dhu ti, central channel), even if grasping the top of the Jewel, it will not move outward until Coemergent Wisdom with complete characteristics is generated. When Bodhicitta descends from the crown of the head, as the movement of wind gradually weakens, when it reaches the Jewel, the self-action of Bodhicitta flowing outward will subside. For those who do not easily absorb wind, if they practice burning and dripping ('bar 'dzag, a visualization method), Bodhicitta will melt and descend quickly. For this situation, if the understanding of melting is insufficient, then if it is not reversed from a high place, it is difficult to reverse from a low place, and the position of reversal must also be high. Even if it is reversed, if it is not spread, it will turn into a disease, so it must be spread. However, as mentioned earlier, for the situation of wind absorption, none of these are necessary. So, if melting occurs easily without the process of wind absorption, how should it be reversed and spread? For this situation, if the melting occurs gradually, then do not use too much force, but reverse it at the crown of the head through focus, and then spread it to all chakra locations. Through this habit, eventually even a large amount of melting can be reversed and spread. If this is not the case, and the melting descends very quickly, then in the state of visualizing oneself as the deity, sit in the lotus position, cross the hands in front of the chest, turn the eyes upward forcefully, and bend the fingers and toes of the hands and feet well. Focus the mind on the Haṃ (藏文:ཧཾ,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马拟音:haṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) syllable at the crown of the head, with the head of the syllable facing upwards. Recite a long Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हूं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) about twenty-one times, and then visualize from the position of reversal, along the central channel close to the back, going upwards to the crown of the head. Finally, hold the gentle Kumbhaka (breath retention) ('jam rlung bum pa can, a type of breath control), and shake the body gently, visualizing in the mind that Bodhicitta is spreading to all chakra locations, repeatedly.

Third, the method of meditating on innate wisdom: As previously explained, when the Bodhicitta reaches the tip of the jewel during the descent, and remains without reversing, innate joy arises. At this time, remember the view that was previously established, abide in that view, and cultivate the inseparability of bliss and emptiness. Even if you do not have a good understanding of the view, abandon the scattering and gathering of the mind, and abide in that bliss itself, cultivating it as much as you can. Similarly, when the Bodhicitta is grasped by the jewel and returns upwards, when it reaches the crown of the head, the innate wisdom of lower stability arises. At this time, also recognize this, and cultivate the inseparability of bliss and emptiness, or, as previously explained, cultivate the non-conceptualization of pure bliss as much as you can. These are the methods of cultivation in the meditative state. The method of cultivation in the post-meditative state is: In general, when innate joy arises, when you rise from meditation, a pleasant appearance of objects will naturally arise. But that alone is not enough. In the post-meditative state, remember the bliss and emptiness of the meditative state, and seal whatever object appearances arise with that, and meditate. The bliss will become especially blazing. Therefore, you should cultivate in this way. Although this instruction is not very clear in other teachings, it appears frequently in the teachings of the Marpa lineage. It is the meaning of many tantras such as Hevajra, so it is important not to interrupt it. Cultivate in this way in the meditative and post-meditative states, and repeatedly perform the visualization of tummo and the practice of wind-energy, alternately generating the four joys. Second, the method of relying on external causes and karma mudra: Both oneself and the karma mudra are individuals of superior faculties, having received pure empowerment, being skilled in and truly guarding the root and branch vows, being skilled in the practice of the mandala wheel, being diligent through the practice of four sessions, being skilled in the sixty-four arts that appear in the teachings of joy, having thoroughly understood the view of emptiness, being skilled in the order of the four joys, especially being skilled in the boundary where innate wisdom arises, and being able to hold the Bodhicitta without reversing, etc., possessing all the characteristics spoken of in the tantras and the treatises of the great accomplished ones. If you do not even understand the rough terminology spoken of in this way, and say that you are going to practice the profound... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
