Furthermore, if after relying on the teacher, one realizes the true nature through listening, thinking, and meditating, and then despises the teacher, thinking, 'Now what can this one do?', this is truly reviling the teacher. Even if one enjoys offerings together with him, it will not be accomplished. What need is there to say that it will not be accomplished? It is said that this is a greater sin than abandoning the Dharma and the five heinous crimes. Therefore, these misdeeds steal all accomplishments and are the root of the suffering of extremely terrifying lower realms. It is repeatedly emphasized in the tantras that one should be very careful in this regard. This also requires contemplating karma in general, and especially contemplating the faults of despising and upsetting the teacher's mind, being very afraid of the negative consequences, and having a firm conviction that these consequences arise from these causes. If these two remain only words, then the avoidance of these misdeeds will also remain only words. Engaging in transgressions such as despising the teacher without any concern, abandoning the protection of vows and precepts, and then claiming to be practicing the path, is said to open the door to the lower realms. Therefore, it is necessary to practice the path based on maintaining the vows and precepts that have been taken. In the fourteenth chapter of the Vajra Heart Ornament Tantra, it says: 'Whoever reviles the true teacher, even if he abandons sleep and distractions and diligently practices all the tantras for a thousand kalpas, will only accomplish hell and other lower realms.' In the first chapter of the Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara, it also says: 'One who diligently practices profound samadhi should always keep the vows. If the vows are broken, one will not receive empowerment or attain accomplishment in the mandala.' Fourth, summarizing the meaning: Therefore, with all effort, do not revile the Vajra master, who is of great wisdom and does not boast of his virtues. Because the fault of reviling the teacher is very great, one should strive with all one's ability not to revile the Vajra master, who is of great wisdom and does not boast of his virtues. This is an admonition given out of compassion to all students in general, and especially to those who are eager to request very profound teachings from anyone who comes along, without distinguishing the proper way to rely on a spiritual friend. Not only should one not revile one's own teacher, but if one helps others to revile, it will be as previously stated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, it should be abandoned in all circumstances, as it becomes a great obstacle to the attainment of siddhi (accomplishment). As stated in the first chapter of the Māyājāla Tantra: 'One should not even see in dreams those who revile the guru. Whoever reviles the guru is seized by obstacles and evil spirits. The wise should always avoid those who engage in evil and violent deeds.' How to Cultivate Respect? Second, there are eight aspects to cultivating respect: offering wealth, viewing the guru as a Buddha, obeying instructions, how to treat the guru's possessions and retinue, immediately purifying behavior, the distinction of physical and verbal reverence, abandoning pride, and not indulging in freedom. Offering Wealth First, there are four aspects to offering wealth: offering to purify disrespect, the manner of offering all possessions, the justification for doing so, and how to maintain the daily samaya. Offering to Purify Disrespect First, it is said: 'To the guru, with respect, offer gifts that are agreeable to him. By doing so, harm such as epidemics will not recur.' If one disrespects the guru due to carelessness, then one should offer the guru delicious food and whatever pleases him with great respect. By doing so, the harm such as epidemics mentioned earlier will not recur. In the Great Commentary on the Glorious Supreme Wheel and the Commentary on the Four Hundred and Fifty Verses, this is explained as a method to restore disrespect towards the guru. The Manner of Offering All Possessions Second, it is said: 'One's own samaya guru, even children, wives, and one's own life, which are difficult to give away, should be used to serve him. What need is there to mention fleeting possessions?' Here, some explain 'one's own samaya guru' as the one who gives samaya to oneself, while others explain it as the guru who is the object of one's samaya. However, in the Great Commentary on the Glorious Supreme Wheel, it says: 'Constantly guarding one's own samaya means that one's own deity's body, speech, and mind vajra are one's own samaya.' Shantipa (Śāntideva) also explains it as the yoga of one's own deity. Therefore, the guru who should be regarded as inseparable from one's own deity's body, speech, and mind is one's own samaya guru. If even children, wives, and one's own life, which are difficult to give away, can be used to please the guru, then what need is there to mention external, fleeting possessions?
