In the commentary on the 'Four Hundred and Fifty Rituals,' Śāntipa said: 'Do not despise,' meaning even if you see the Lama behaving improperly, do not be disrespectful. As it is said: 'By despising all Buddhas,' it shows that despising always leads to suffering, just as offering to the Vajra Master is said to be offering to all Buddhas. Specifically explained: Secondly, what kind of suffering does one obtain by despising or slandering the teacher? 'The slander of the teacher leads to plagues and harmful diseases, as well as demons, epidemics, and poisons, causing the great fool to die.' 'Kings, fire, poisonous snakes, flesh-eating Ḍākinīs, thieves, as well as demons and evil guides, will also kill him, and then he will go to hell.' From the 'Change Sutra': 'Plagues and near-harming diseases, as well as demons, epidemics, and poisons, will cause the great fool who slanders the feet of the Lama to die.' What is said here includes both the faults of this life and the faults of future lives. The first is indicated by the first verse and 'kings...evil guides will kill him.' The second is indicated by 'going to hell.' Among these, plague refers to unbearable infectious diseases other than ordinary epidemics. Near-harming refers to the harm from fierce creatures other than the harm from sentient beings below. Disease refers to diseases other than plagues and epidemics, as stated in the eighth chapter of the 'Tent Chapter': 'Through the combination of deceit and trickery, improper service and reverence, it leads to hemoptysis, leprosy, and great diseases, and after death, one goes to hell, etc.' Demons refer to the demons of gods and nāgas, etc. Epidemics refer to incurable diseases such as one-day fever, etc. Poison refers to mixed poisons, etc., which cause death because the fool is ignorant of the extraordinary faults of slandering the Lama. Similarly, kings, poisonous snakes, flesh-eating Ḍākinīs, thieves, and fierce evil guides will also kill him, or he will die untimely in fire and water, and after death, he will be born in hells. These are from the first section of the first chapter of the 'Glorious Supreme First Tantra': 'Whoever slanders the Lama who is equal to all Buddhas, that person slanders all Buddhas, and will always obtain suffering, epidemics, and poisons...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being harmed by contagious diseases, tormented by Ḍākinīs (མཁའ་འགྲོ་, 空行母), and killed by evil spirits and fierce misleading guides, sentient beings fall into hell. The above is a summary. Second, avoiding disturbing the Guru's mind: Never should one disturb the minds of the Gurus. If one does so out of ignorance, one will surely be tormented in hell. As it is said, one should never, at any time, disturb the minds of the Vajra Gurus, that is, make them unhappy, by any of one's actions. If a disciple does so out of ignorance, they will be tormented and burned in hell. This karma is extremely powerful and will surely produce unavoidable results. Although it is a definite karma, it is said in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses that it can be purified by the four powers, which will be explained in detail in the Stages of the Path. This verse is taken from the *Moon Secret Bindu*. Third, explaining the faults of not seeing: Whatever hells are taught, such as Avīci (མནར་མེད་, 无间) and other terrifying hells, it is taught that those who revile the Guru will dwell there. As it is said. The hells mentioned earlier, where sentient beings go, refer to the Avīci hell mentioned in the Sutras and Tantras, and other extremely hot hells, that is, those with the greatest suffering. Those who revile the Guru will dwell there and experience suffering for a long time. This is summarized from the fourteenth chapter of the *Vajra Heart Ornament Tantra* and the first chapter of the *Net of Illusion Gradual Differentiation*. Even the protectors will not protect them, as it is said in the *Vajra Heart Ornament*: 'The evil, fierce, and greatly foolish one, even if they go in the four directions, the wise will not protect them, but with weapons such as spears, they will kill the one who commits misdeeds.' The fifth chapter of the *Compendium* also says: 'Sentient beings who commit the five inexpiable sins, even the greatest sins, the Vajra Vehicle is like a great ocean, in this supreme vehicle one can achieve. If one reviles the Guru from the heart, even if one practices, one will not be able to achieve.' Its commentary, the *Lamp Illuminating*, says that just as killing one's parents and Arhats, destroying the body of the Tathāgata, and abandoning the Dharma, the five inexpiable sins that cause one to fall into hell immediately after death, and other sins such as the near inexpiable sins and committing the four root downfalls, if one obtains the Completion Stage through the kindness of the Guru, one can achieve Buddhahood.
