Merely having a superficial understanding does not seem to quell afflictions and delusions. In short, one must thoroughly comprehend the view and understand the key points of practice. Regarding the faults of samsara and the benefits of liberation, it should not be just lip service, but a genuine and unwavering conviction. Towards the qualities of the Teacher (stön pa, guide) and the Dharma, one should generate steadfast faith. If, despite this, one does not make practice the core, but focuses on the pleasures of this life, it breaks my heart, What other examination is there? Therefore, now do not waste the remaining life in meaningless pursuits, do not let lifespan and practice be unbalanced, do not pretend to benefit others, accumulating wealth through deceitful means, focusing on enjoyment. If one focuses on worldly pleasures and ease, may the Dharma protectors chop off my head like felling a stump of an Azaga tree! Furthermore, I offer these vows before the Yidam (yi dam, personal deity): To the lotus feet, the pollen of whose lotus petals, Brahma (tshangs pa, Brahma), Indra (lha dbang, King of Gods), Vishnu (khyab 'jug, Vishnu), and other arrogant beings of the world respectfully adorn with their crowns, to the protector Avalokiteśvara (spyan ras gzigs mgon, Avalokiteśvara), I prostrate! Even having heard much, one does not apply it to the mind properly; even having upheld hundreds of precepts, one is stained with the defilement of transgressions. Wise and compassionate deity, please pay attention for a moment to these vows of mine, a practitioner! Wherever I dwell, if attachment to pleasure increases, one's own mind is bound by fame and gain, and the minds of others are tormented by jealousy and competition, I will not stay there even for a moment. From now until the end of my life, I will always live like a rhinoceros in the snowy mountains, valleys, and forests, and will not live in cities and crowds. Until I have gained unwavering stability that is not shaken by the eight worldly concerns (chos brgyad, eight worldly dharmas, referring to gain, loss, disgrace, fame, praise, criticism, suffering, and happiness), Apart from taming my own mind alone, I will not harm my own practice for the sake of benefiting others. Apart from the three robes (chos gos gsum, three robes held by a bhikkhu) and the alms bowl and other necessities for survival, I will not hold even a sesame seed's worth of extra items such as gold and wealth for my own sake. I will never speak of the faults of others, and unless it is meaningful and in accordance with the Dharma, I will never speak false words about war, thieves, and the talk of kings. I will endure hardship for the sake of the Dharma, renounce the world, and pursue the essence of yoga. I will only associate with no more than four followers who are like-minded and content with little. If I violate these vows, may the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and the compassionate Lord Avalokiteśvara, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Treat pigs, sheep, donkeys, and all beings equally. Remember what I have said and practice accordingly. I have no other testament after my death, and even if we meet again, I have nothing else to say. The reason I retreat into solitude is not because I am bothered by family and friends, nor for fame and gain. But because I see the suffering of samsara as an unbearable pit of fire. Moreover, the Bhagavan praised solitary places in many scriptures, seeing them as even more delightful than lotus ponds. Like this: I prostrate to the Thubwang, the god of gods, who has no faults, is adorned with wonderful qualities, and whose fame waves in the three realms. Listen, wise friends, the sun of the teachings (Bstanpai Nyinjay) has set on the western mountain. Life is like a flowing stream, and those who desire liberation should practice diligently. The Chakravartin (universal monarch) who possesses the seven precious things, rules the four great continents, enjoys immeasurable merit, and practices the ten virtues. Even the glory of the Chakravartin, who enjoys the bliss of perfect higher realms, is like driftwood in water. Even Mount Meru (Lhunpo), which stands firm for a long time, enjoys happiness in a delightful garden. Indra, the thousand-eyed god surrounded by respectful long-lived deities, is also a slave of samsara. Brahma, the father of the world with a golden womb, who has abandoned the suffering of body and mind and spends eons in the bliss of Samadhi. Cannot escape samsara and cannot attain the state of immortality. What can touch and turn even the firm Mount Meru into ashes in an instant? Who can endure the suffering of hell, the flames burning on the body? The form of a hungry ghost (Yidag), which can dry up great rivers with just a glance and make trees barren. Those who see it will feel fear and dread. Beings who are shrouded in the darkness of ignorance, not knowing what to accept or reject, killing each other like sparks of Vajra. And who can endure the suffering of various animals who are constantly subjected to exploitation and whipping? Since we know that the perfections of samsara are so insignificant and full of faults. In order to liberate ourselves and others from the ocean of samsara, I, the learned one, will go to the solitary forest. Like a bird longing for rain hearing the sound of thunder, these words of solitude fall into my heart. May what I have heard be meaningful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
