Nunu Lodro's Instructions RD13: Instructions for Benefiting Others This is a compilation of instructions on benefiting others. Presented to Dharma Lord Drakpa Gyaltsen (chos rje grags pa rgyal mtshan pa). Homage to Lokeshvara (na mo lo ke shwa ra ya). The light of Drakpa Zangpo (grags pa bzang po) shines in all ten directions, Like a precious jewel on top of a victory banner. Among many wise ones, you possess unparalleled glory and splendor. I offer these words to the venerable Lama. You have perfectly mastered all fields of knowledge, Able to instruct others without relying on anyone else. Turning away from samsara, seeking liberation, Isn't this the benefit of extensive learning? However, even if one is learned, but does not practice accordingly, Indulging in pleasures, shunning solitary places. It's like a parrot that only speaks empty words, Or a sorceress possessed by demons. Seeing the suffering of samsara as a pit of fire, Abandoning worldly pleasures like spitting out filth. Transforming extensive learning into practice in the deep mountains, Taking practice as the essence, this is praised by the Buddha. There are green grasses, flowers, and abundant fruits, A place where young deer roam freely without fear. Trees are lush and green, with cool shade, How fortunate to spend one's life in a remote place. Therefore, I also choose to live in seclusion, Completely abandoning the pursuit of worldly fulfillment. In order to make the knowledge I've learned meaningful, I contemplate its essence diligently. May you, venerable one, with your wisdom, Spread the Buddha's teachings far and wide. May you also, with what you have learned and contemplated, Take practice as the essence, and strive diligently. May you be free from illness, Enjoy the feast of the sacred Dharma in comfort and joy, May your activities spread in all ten directions. The above was offered by Shakya Bhikshu Yönnu Lodrö (gzhon nu blo gros) to Khenpo Rinpoche Drakpa Gyaltsen (grags pa rgyal mtshan pa). May there be auspiciousness! Instructions to Lama Renlampa - A Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment Homage to all the Buddhas and their retinues in the ten directions. Those who have obtained the leisure and fortune of human birth, Possessing faith, virtue, and the four perfections, Those who single-mindedly wish to learn the path of virtue, Please listen to this method of attaining enlightenment. Like a blind turtle surfacing in the vast ocean, encountering a yoke with a hole. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like a turtle inserting its neck into the yoke hole, this body of leisure and opportunity is truly difficult to obtain. Who with a mind would let it be wasted? One should listen extensively, contemplate properly, and diligently meditate in secluded forests. Make practice the essence that follows listening. One will be liberated from the fortress of birth with little effort. The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds. The birth and death of beings are like watching a dance. The life of beings is like lightning in the sky, swiftly passing like a waterfall from a steep cliff. Just as a person holding a stick leads livestock to the slaughterhouse, so too do birth, aging, sickness, and death lead all beings to the presence of the Lord of Death. Just as small streams, separated, cause great rivers to diminish, so too do passing days and nights quickly destroy the lives of people. There is no place where the Lord of Death does not appear. It is not found in the ocean, nor in the expanse of space, nor by entering among the mountains. As many as have come and will come, all have taken this body and passed away. Knowing that it will perish without being eaten by demons, one should strive as if putting out a fire on one's head. The single path of the Buddhas and their heirs is the mind of compassion, non-dual wisdom, and the supreme Bodhicitta that wishes to liberate all beings. Diligently and constantly train in these three dharmas. First, clinging to 'I' with attachment to self, then creating attachment to things as 'mine,' wandering without freedom like a drifting bucket, look upon these beings with a compassionate heart. To liberate beings, generate the genuine aspiration for perfect enlightenment, and gradually train the mind in the conduct of the Bodhisattvas in accordance with your ability. Knowing that all afflictions, actions, and births arise from the view of the aggregates, strive to destroy the root of liberation—the clinging to 'self' and 'what is mine.' As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, the clinging to 'I' and 'mine' will not cease. Therefore, following scripture and reason, burn the firewood of the aggregates with the fire of discriminating wisdom. Because there is no birth from self, other, both, or without cause, all things are empty of inherent existence. Or, because there is no nature of one or many, they are also empty like reflections. Like illusions, mirages, cities of gandharvas, and the moon in water, the child of a barren woman.
