Like a sound. From well-known causes and conditions, Because it arises dependently, it is not entirely non-existent. Unspeakable, beyond directions, abandoning all grasping, The wise consider this meaning to be the Middle Way. Whoever diligently engages in the Middle Way, Enters the path that pleases the Buddhas. As long as words can express, It is the proliferation of the net of conceptual thoughts, a play of elaboration. The nature of reality is unspeakable, not within the realm of speech, Not to be examined by conceptual thought, free from elaboration. Those who point to that reality Through the path of words, Are like drawing pictures in the sky. Therefore, the unspeakable nature of the sky, The Victorious Ones declare to be the reality itself. Whoever places their mind on such a meaning, Truly places their mind on the real meaning. Meditating on the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom, Is also the passing into peace in this very life. Existence, non-existence, both, neither, and so on, Whoever dwells on any extreme, Has entered improperly. Will be seized by the snake of afflictions, will be devoured by demons. Wisdom that does not abide anywhere is supreme, Not thinking about any signs is the best of realizations. The complete pacification of all thoughts is the pinnacle of bliss, This unspeakable meaning is meditative yoga. Always with illusion-like samadhi, Cherish the conduct of the path of dependent arising in the post-meditation state. This dependent arising Is praised as the most precious and profound treasure of the Victorious Ones' speech. Just as by relying on wood and strings, And the effort of the hands, the three together, Can produce sounds from lutes, flutes, and so on, Relying on these, sound also arises. From where does that sound come, and where does it go? Upon this, some wise ones investigate, But cannot find the coming or going of sound. Thus, all changing phenomena arise from causes and conditions, The yogi who sees that all phenomena are empty and without movement, Understands that very nature. Empty within, and empty without, Sentient beings and self are empty, without a place to dwell, The nature of phenomena is the very essence of the sky. Just as in the dream of a young girl, She sees a son born and then die, Happy at his birth and unhappy at his death, Know all phenomena to be just like that. Magicians conjure up forms, Creating various horses, elephants, and chariots, But there is nothing real that appears in them, Know all phenomena to be just like that. Just as when the moon rises in a clear sky, Its reflection appears in clear water.

Like an image, the moon does not move into the water. Know that all dharmas have such a nature. In caves, mountains, riverbanks, echoes arise depending on these. Likewise, know that all compounded things are like this. All beings are like illusions and mirages. Just as in the midday sun of summer, a thirsty person wanders, seeing a mirage as a mass of water. Know that all dharmas are like this. There is no water in a mirage, but foolish beings desire to drink from it, yet the unreal water cannot be drunk. Know that all dharmas are like this. Just as in a clear sky, a circle of clouds appears in an instant, one should know from where it initially arises. Know that all dharmas are like this. Like a mirage, a city of gandharvas, like an illusion, like a dream, contemplating the characteristics, its essence is empty. Know that all dharmas are like this. The cycle of existence is like a dream; in this, no one dies, and no one is born. The names and lives of beings cannot be found; this dharma is like a bubble, a piece of wood on water, like an illusion, like lightning in the sky, like the moon in water, like a mirage. Some die in this world and do not transfer to another world, but the actions done are never wasted. In samsara, the results of black and white actions ripen. This profound path of dependent arising is the way of the post-meditation state for yogis. Constantly pleasing the arising of Buddhas, etc., is a method for perfecting the conduct of enlightenment. The great aspirations that the Buddhas and their sons have praised, make them with a mind of desire. Whatever merit is accumulated by such practice, with the wisdom of appearance and emptiness like illusion, not abiding in the extremes of existence and peace, dedicate it to great enlightenment with a mind of benefiting others. This is the advice to the diligent practitioner who makes diligence the essence. The Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, written by the Shākya monk Youthful Intellect, is complete. May there be auspicious goodness! Given to Dharma Lord Lobsang Drakpa (Tsongkhapa), together with words of delight in solitude. Given to Dharma Lord Lobsang Drakpa (Tsongkhapa), together with words of delight in solitude. Om, may it be auspicious! The main points of the letter are already in my mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
