Since it enjoys, the branch of enjoyment, the wisdom body complete with marks and signs, united with the mother of self-luminosity, is the branch of union, the continuous great bliss without outflows is the branch of great bliss, these three are the characteristics of the Sambhogakaya. Impartial great compassion pervading like space is the branch of complete compassion, vast activities spontaneously accomplishing at the edge of samsara is the branch of unceasing continuity, not abiding at the edge of nirvana's peace is the branch of unobstructedness, these three are the characteristics of the Nirmanakaya. Emptiness and compassion united, free from all elaborations, is the branch of no-self-nature, is the characteristic of the Dharmakaya. Thus, the three kayas are endowed with seven branches. In "A Detailed Analysis of Innate Mind," it says: The nature of mind is not merely the aspect of mind's emptiness. From the aspect of having knowing, it is called self-arisen wisdom. Since its awareness or clarity is not at all different from emptiness, it is devoid of all signs and fixations, therefore it has no cause. Abiding naturally like clear sky, this is called the ground luminosity. This is not merely emptiness, but the nature of awareness or clarity, therefore it is called the basis of all dharmas. It is the true nature of all dharmas. Birth also arises from it, cessation also dissolves into it, and there is nothing more to cease than that, because it is emptiness itself. Therefore, although the ground pervades all of samsara and nirvana with the nature of dharmata, in the state of the primordial ground, the "Tashi Zilden Tantra" says: The self-arisen wisdom of awareness has not moved from the ground. When the ground appearance has not arisen, it is realized; when Buddhahood has not occurred, it is not realized; sentient beings have not occurred. Therefore, from the aspect of its own nature, the ground is neither liberated nor deluded. Therefore, it is called the ground dharmata beyond liberation and delusion, because this is the primordial, authentic, innate dharmata. The "Klong Drugpa" says: Essence is primordially pure. Nature is spontaneously present. So it is. The aspect of essence is beyond the extremes of existence and non-existence. The aspect of nature abides only as a potential for manifestation. These two, being inseparable in their own nature, free from extremes, abide in the Great Perfection, as it is said in "Awareness Self-Liberated": The stains of the four extremes are self-purified.

So! When rigpa arises from the ground and manifests as ground-appearance; and when it is now abiding in the body; and in the bardo of dharmata, it abides in the house of light, self-awareness arises from the ground. Until the ultimate ground is attained, it does not go beyond ground-appearance. It is like a candle abiding in its own light, or like the appearance of crystal meeting sunlight. In short, when rigpa is in the ground-abiding inner space, at the time of the beginning and the end, there is no actual form-light from the depths of clarity. Then, when it arises, it is accompanied by the radiance of its own light. When it abides in the heart, it is referred to as the ground-abiding state, etc. When the dharmas that can arise from such a ground are brought forth and the ground-appearance of appearance is arranged, that ground is also called a 'realizer.' Therefore, if the nature of that ground is realized, one is liberated; if it is not realized, one is confused. Therefore, buddhas and sentient beings arise, and it is called 'one ground, two paths.' Meaning of the words: The essence is primordially pure (ka-dag), the nature is spontaneously pure, non-dual, beyond thought and expression, and it abides in the nature of being free from defects from the beginning, which is only a symbol of the spontaneously accomplished ground of manifestation, and not its own characteristic. The essence is not established in anything, so it is free from the basis of names. The nature is liberated from the beginning of appearance, so it is free from what is to be expressed. The reality is liberated from elaboration, so it is free from characteristics. Therefore, the three bases of name, what is to be expressed, and the ground cannot be established. When identifying the way the essence abides, the essence is the self-born wisdom of rigpa. The dharmakaya of primordial emptiness. The truth of manifest space. The reality of the clear light of dharmata, which is not established in anything such as samsara and nirvana, happiness and suffering, existence and non-existence, is and is not, liberation and confusion, awareness and unawareness. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: 'In the primordially pure from the very beginning, even the name of confusion cannot be spoken. Likewise, what is non-confusion? Therefore, confusion is non-existent from the beginning.' And in the Secret Tantra Without Letters: 'Self-born wisdom has no object to be used. There is no past. There is no future. There is no present appearance. There is no karma. There are no karmic imprints. There is no ignorance. There is no mind. There is no intellect. There is no wisdom. There is no samsara. There is no nirvana. Even rigpa itself does not exist. There is no appearance as wisdom.' So it is. That is also pure from the beginning, from the very beginning.
